An ultraviolet system is a great way to sanitize your water but did you know, without a shock kill on all the piping downstream of the UV you can still have bacteria in your drinking water? The UV only kills the bacteria in the water that flows through the light not the water at the taps! The first picture is the old beat up system that was installed 15 years ago. Without proper maintenance and sizing for the water quality it was time for it to go! With the new system we fired up just over a week ago we see the 80000 chickens on the farm are drinking just over 12% more water than previous crops and the 60 milk cows are already starting to produce more milk! Working on farms is probably the best work there is. It's very satisfying to contribute to the food chain. Last job of the day! Quick install of a 1ft water softener and 10gpm uv light. This young couple have water hardness at about 30 grains per gallon and with this softener they will get just under 1000 of treated water before the unit regenerates. A troublesome sewer lateral can cause a lot of damage and mess! First you auger out the plug, in this case tree roots have worked their way into the old cast sewer, and after everything is flushed out send the camera down to investigate where the problem areas are! By Ontario building code the main drain coming out of the floor that continues to be the main vent stack has to come out of the floor as 4" pipe. Also immediately downstream of the 3rd toilet connection has to 4" pipe. Looking like we'll have to break some floor and find the 4" under ground! Replacement well pump for a hog farm! This farm has changed what the peak water demand and was drawing the water level down to the pump ruining the old pump! So according to the well report we decided to drop the new one down an extra 20' and throttle the flow rate to 18gpm.
