Covid cannot keep us down!!!! Look at these Vegan delights, made for some good folks doing a zoom Nutrition class through our School. Grab and go!!! Learn and eat!!
Ok, as I listen to the latest round of Covid restrictions I am sad. For now, we will keep planning, as best as we can I guess, for our upcoming, covid distancing, garden party fundraiser on May 29th. At present, the latest restrictions are in place until May 26th. All we can ask here is that you check this site often for announcements. We are moving with the protocols in terms of constantly reinventing how we can do what we need to do but still keep in line with the protocol...s. It cannot be said enough that without the support of the Winnipeg Foundation and other private donors, we would not be here to provide what has become an important service via our school, that of cooking classes geared specifically to those who are dealing with Mental Health issues, many of which are further exacerbated by our present health situation. Mary Jane's Cooking School is first and foremost about Community. We will never lose sight of that. We will do what we can, within the parameters, to ensure that we are here as a beacon of all that can be good. Does what I write (as a board member and Chef) sound cheesey and sentimental? You bet. CHEESE IS GOOD. Healthy emotions are good. We will prevail. Love to all out there. Eat, imbibe, and totally be MERRY. Peace out....

Fall time is harvest time. Many of us are busy canning those last batches of veg that come winter will bring back memories of warmer times. Fall time is also a time of excitement, of a flurry of activities that will see us over the colder months. During these changing and trying times MJCS has been busy with its new initiatives one of which is our Healthy Cooking and Eating for Body and Mind, a series of courses geared towards those who deal with Mental Health Issues. This is... in conjunction with the Canadian Mental Health Association. To say we are enjoying this new facet of our school would be an understatement. And it goes without saying that without the assistance of the Winnipeg Foundation and its Stabilization Grant program we would have been in serious straits. Many agencies like ours struggle at the best of times but with Covid our struggles have increased while the need for what we do has ironically enough, increased. When we were informed of our successful application it gave us hope, and increased our resolve to take things further, regardless of the Covid curveballs. Every little bit counts. As well, we are gearing up to announce soon some new fall/winter programming hosted by guest Chefs. As always our focus remains on healthy and nutritious foods, with a local and international ingredients and flavour focus, right back to our traditional country classics. During these times classes will continue unless we are directed differently. We will be redesigning our web pages and coming on board the social media train with additions of an Instagram and maybe a twitter account. Stay tuned. Please visit here often to check out announcements and cooking tips, health information, food discussions. We encourage our followers to post queries here as well. Let us know how you are doing during these strange times we find ourselves in. No one should ever feel alone or helpless or hungry. Stay wonderful! Stay healthy!!
