Our last rug of the week goes to Wisdom, as today is our last day open for our 2021 season! We loved having our temporary exhibit Born from Necessity, 25 Years of the Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador here. We are excited to have a new temporary exhibit for you guys in the spring of 2022. Stay tuned for that!
Our staff here at the Mary March Provincial Museum wore orange yesterday and today as a way to help raise awareness about the residential school systems and their impact on Indigenous communities. We invite everyone to take some time today to learn and reflect. The Museum is open today, September 30, from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Admission today is FREE. Our hope is for a better future for all children because #EveryChildMatters!
Happy #WorldTourismDay :)

Today is the first FULL day of fall What’s your favourite thing to do in the fall? Our favourite thing to do in the fall is put off our fall school programs! We have been having so much fun having all the classes come and visit us.
Just a reminder, with the latest guidelines from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, masks are now required when visiting the Mary March Provincial Museum.

Moose Hunting Season 2021 officially opened this past Saturday (11th). Did you know Moose are non-native to Newfoundland? Two Moose were first introduced in 1878 in the Gander Bay area, but were unfortunately unsuccessful. They introduced four Moose a few years later in 1904 in the Howley area and the rest is history! For many in our province, hunting, fishing, trapping and logging are not only a passion but a way of life. ... Happy Hunting!
This year we commemorate the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Most of us remember where we were and how life changed that day. We also remember the 38 flights and 6700 passengers who landed in Gander, and the people of Gander and surrounding areas opening their hearts and homes to people from all over the world. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Please take a moment to reflect; not only on the horrific attacks, but also the heroism that was shown that day. Stay strong!
Don’t forget today is #OrangeShirtDay. Our staff here at the Museum are wearing orange today as a way to help raise awareness about the residential school systems and their impact on Indigenous communities. Our hope is for a better future for all children because #EveryChildMatters!
