Marytown to Point Rosie Trail 30.11.2020

The Text Below will be added to a Go-Fund-Me Page June 1, 2016. The Marystown Trail Association in cooperation with the Burin Peninsula Trailway Board is launching a campaign to find funding to upgrade the Marystown to Point Rosie Trail, more commonly known as the Marystown to Garnish Trail. The trail was roughed-in in 2012 with contributions from the Provincial Government, the Town of Marystown, and the Marystown Trail Association. At this point, however, the trail is impas...sable in places. Since the initial construction, the Town of Garnish has contributed funds to make improvements on the Garnish end of the trail. The goal now is to improve the half closest to Marystown, to take the trail out of the ditch through the bog and grade the rough stretches. This will allow a comfortable ride for almost 50 kilometers from the former Ville Marie Swimming Pool on Garnish Pond Road to Garnish and on to Point Rosie. These improvements will serve to make Marystown an ATV destination, bringing tourism dollars to the Marystown trails, as well as others on the Burin Peninsula. If you own an ATV or side-by-side, please consider donating to this cause. We ask ATVers, particularly in the Marystown-Burin area, but from anywhere else as well, to join us in linking Marystown to the Garnish Point Rosie Trail. If you donate $30, we will make sure you receive a Burin Peninsula Trailway permit decal for 2016. That decal will entitle you to ride any trail on the Burin Peninsula. If you already have one for 2016, you will receive one for 2017. Every dollar donated will be spent to improve the ride from Marystown to Garnish. We expect the work to be done before August is gone. Your support is much appreciated. Anyone who would like to become more involved with the Marystown Trail Association should contact Dan Kelly at 77.5586. See more

At a recent meeting of Marystown area ATVers, it was sugested the trail to Garnish, tentativly called the Garnish River Trail, be renamed the Marystown to Point Rosie Trail. The meeting agreed, and so the name change for this Page. You can see some pics I took along the entire route at https://plus.google.com/photos/107884563600075929645/albums

As of December, 20, the trail is ready for traffic. Serious grading is required to bring the trailbed to a more comfortable level. That will depend on the funding available. ATVers in Marystown are are encouraged to buy the Burin Peninsula Trailway Sticker ($30) from Pittman's Auto to give us the funding to make this happen. As of Dec. 4, the excavator is 4.9 kms from Dix's Head Road, halfway to Garnish. At almost 1 km per day, excavation will likely wrap up within the next two weeks. The trail is messy as is all newly dug ground this time of year. It will need to be graded to make the trailbed as good as it can be. This will happen after the trail has had a chance to dry out. All ATVers in Marystown area are encouraged to pick up their 2012 Burin Peninsula Trailway Sticker from Pittman's Auto ASAP. You support is appreciated.

Digging started on Tuesday! Marystown ATVers should consider paying for the $30 sticker to help pay for the project. We expect it will be done by mid December. Look for more in next week's Gazette.
