As we celebrated Good Shepherd Sunday yesterday, we are so grateful for all the priests who have tirelessly and generously ministered to Maryvale Academy over the years! Here is a video clip from our virtual gala wherein Fr Lindsay Harrison, Fr Matthew Chojna, Fr Tim Devine, CC and Fr Terry Donahue, CC share some of their personal experiences at Maryvale!
We were so blessed to have our Archbishop Marcel Damphousse deliver an inspiring address at our 'Abounding in Hope' virtual gala one month ago on March 19 (which was also His Grace's birthday!). We are grateful for his encouragement and support as we press onward in making missionary disciples of Christ!

The annual student Advent Fair included Christmas recitations by the Kindergarten class and grades 1 & 2; a short Nativity play by grades 5 & 6; debut performances by our brand new grades 3 to 8 handbell choir; and crafts and refreshments facilitated by the grade 7,8 class.
Maryvale Academy was very pleased to mark Remembrance Day with Colonel J. Paul de B. Taillon (Ret'd). Colonel Taillon spoke of duty and courage and sacrifice and the importance of remembering the war dead. He also had an opportunity to speak about some of his own experiences in the field. We opened and closed our assembly with prayers, had student poppy art on display, and students recited "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae and "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon from memory. It was an engaging and moving afternoon.
Always a favourite at Maryvale: dressing up as saints for All Saints Day earlier this month!
We were blessed with beautiful, warm, amazingly summer-like weather last week for our in-house cross-country running event! Students in grades 1 to 8 exercised courage and perseverance in their run and demonstrated charity in their support of others. Well done, everyone!
We are happy to release a new video describing our wonderful school. Please watch and share with friends, families, co-parishioners etc.
Last week, to honour the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the students and teachers formed a living rosary in the schoolyard. Each person represented a bead and a prayer, and each prayed for their own special intentions. The daily blessings received are a tangible reminder of the power of the Rosary and Our Lady's intercession.
The Maryvale soccer tournament was an intramural event this year. The students adapted well to the change and the wet weather did not dampen their enthusiasm. Our junior players were particularly brave, starting their game in the rain, and were rewarded when the sun eventually broke through. A special thank you to our coaches and our referee who were on duty for all three games. Here are some shots of the senior boys' game.

Our grade 8 class was finally able to have an outside, socially-distanced graduation Mass and ceremony! We were blessed with hot, sunny weather despite the forecast for rain. His Grace, Archbishop Prendergast celebrated Mass for us and Maryvale staff, graduates and their immediate family were able to attend. "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!"
Please note that we are accepting applications for a faith-filled French teacher for the 20/21 school year. Please share widely. Thanks!
As a result of the consistent support of parents, the assiduous work of Maryvale teachers, and the diligent response of our students, the year’s curriculum was fully completed with some modifications to allow for remote delivery. Here are some screenshots from our distance learning this Spring.
At Maryvale, our kindergarteners learn to read and write, and explore the beauty of mathematics in the rich and engaging hands-on morning program! In the stimulating afternoon program, the children are taught French, religion, science, recitation, music, and art in an integrated fashion. Daily prayers, chapel visits, story times, free play and outdoor recess are also part of each day, and once a week they attend the school mass. Overall, Maryvale offers a beautiful kindergarten program in a loving, nurturing environment! Registration is open for 2020-2021. Please contact [email protected]
The school building has been closed since March Break but Maryvale teachers continue to provide a classically-based curriculum from a distance. In grade 5,6 students have been learning how to calculate percent and angles; all about the history of both the Periodic Table and the European Renaissance; how to juggle; to conduct chemistry experiments in the kitchen; to write poetry in iambic metre; to make an accurate illustration of a descriptive novel; and to draw a Celtic Knot!
Maryvale Academy continues to pray for all of you. Please pray for our students as they continue to work quite hard and are learning so much. Please consider supporting our gala sponsors who were so generous in February! Central Bierhaus and Crazy Horse are selling giftcards. Grades 1 & 2 have been working hard during this time of distance learning, continuing their studies in English Language Arts, Math, Religion, Music, French Language Arts, Science and Visual Arts! In Religion, they have been learning about the spiritual and corporal works of mercy and Marian devotion during the month of May. In Math, Grade 1s have been learning addition and subtraction to 100 and Grade 2s have been learning to draw and understand bar models to aid with multipl...ication and division. In our Poetry unit, students have continued to memorize poems for recitation and have been writing their own Haikus! They have also been crafting creative writing pieces to learn and practice writing skills. Here is a sample of some of their great work.

Please pray for our school and the children!
Before March Break, students from grades 5 to 8 participated in a basketball invitational hosted by Redeemer Christian High School. Good sportsmanship and athleticism were displayed, and there were some very exciting moments!
