Maryvale Softball 18.11.2020

Hi Maryvale adult players, Gord Lyness has asked me to pass along a message to you all. One of our former adult players Andy Bauer was mugged on Wednesday evening on his way home and is now in intensive care with a brain bleed. Andy and his family played in the adult league for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his wife and their families during this difficult time.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OUR ADULT DIVISION Players, Coaches and Volunteers: Further to our coaches meeting on Thursday, June 18th, 2020, we received communica...tion from the City of Toronto pertaining to our permits and advising of the current restrictions around games/scrimmages due to COVID-19 that will be in place as permits resume. I know we have all been waiting patiently, and we cannot thank you enough for that, however a decision had to be made in the best interest of your health and the health of your families and our community. Our intention was to begin the season in early July and make up any missed games however, with only beginning Stage 2 at this point in the summer, we have to be fair and realistic when managing our expectations and don't want you to be delayed in planning out the rest of your summer activities. This comes with a very heavy heart but we have officially decided to cancel the 2020 season due to the health risks from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the permit restrictions put in place pertaining to games. This decision comes with a very heavy heart and is one the Maryvale Softball Executive hoped they would never have to be make but we are officially cancelling the 2020 Adult season. It was a difficult decision to make but it is the right decision to keep yourself and your families a safe. To summarize: Parks are open for walking, cycling, running, basketball, tennis and gatherings limited to 10 people or less (including spectators) with limits to enable physical distancing. Some park amenities remain closed at this time, including playgrounds. Parks/Outdoor-only recreational facilities will allow training for outdoor team sports, with limits to enable physical distancing; NOTE: ONLY TRAINING WILL BE PERMITTED AT THIS TIME, NO GAMES. Water recreational facilities such as outdoor splash pads and wading pools, and all swimming pools are preparing to open with restrictions, though an official opening date has not been provided; The City of Toronto will not be in a position to issue permits for games until there is further direction on mass gatherings from Toronto's Medical Officer of Health. Please continue to follow direction from our Provincial, Municipal and Health leaders as well as any direction/recommendations provided by your local Public Health Units so we can continue to do our part. When this crisis is over and the Public Health allows us to regroup, it is our hope to host at least one tournament this summer, if timing and weather will allow it. This event will be posted via our Facebook group and registration for the "event" would take place online. Additionally, there will be a fee for this tournament (cost to be provided at that time) and will not affect your registration for 2021. For this "event" you will be able to register a full team and individual registration will not be accepted for the "event". Also, you will not be required to be a current/past player with Maryvale Softball though we would hope you will continue with the spirit of the league when recruiting and you are not required to be a coach to register a team. Please keep an eye out for more information as restrictions are lifted and remember, a representative will have to register for the "event" via the Facebook Event with a full team. In regards to refunds, please be patient with us. Every registered player will be contacted via email by the Registrar regarding their payment and how they wish to proceed. Lastly, we want to thank all of the players, player-umpires and volunteers for everything you do for Maryvale Softball and your continued support each and every season. Without all of your hard work and dedication, Maryvale Softball would not be as successful as we are. We hope that the 2021 season will be bigger and better than it has ever been before and I look forward to taking the field with you when we can do so in a safe manner. Regards, Michelle Long & Tracey Paveling President & Adult League Commissioner Maryvale Softball
