The Lonely SOLD OUT Six years ago a Middle School Counselor who looked a lot like Roy Orbison came into my office and said I want to do a tribute to the great Roy Orbison and so The Lonely’s story began. It is with great sadness that the Mary Winspear Centre family announces the passing of one its most loved artists MIKE DEMERS. After MIKE’s first sold out Lonely show on January 30, 2015 he went on to perform eight sold out shows in the Charlie White Theatre in just fiv...e years. MIKE DEMERS was introduced to Rock.It Boy Entertainment (part of the Mary Winspear Centre family) a National promotor who took MIKE and The Lonely across Canada three times in the last four years selling out at virtually every location. MIKE had a new career and it was hugely successful! In early 2020 he played his first sold out shows in the United States on the Western seaboard and he was also invited to perform on a Cruise ship in Europe. MIKE played his last live show in March of 2020 just days before the pandemic shuttered our theatres. Shortly thereafter MIKE was diagnosed with leukemia; he fought bravely and made more (posted) music but eventually succumbed to this illness on Sunday May 2, 2021. As a person MIKE DEMERS was humble, kind, and caring! We are so thankful that MIKE DEMERS lived his dream of being recognized both nationally and internationally for his great musicianship and singing abilities. Mike, rest in peace. See more

This week we are celebrating #NationalVolunteerWeek. The Centre could not operate without our amazing volunteers and we want to recognize their hard work and dedication to the community. We miss all our volunteers and hope to have them back in the theatre soon!

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the shows with George Canyon originally scheduled for Dec 17-22, 2020 have been moved to Feb 23-28, 2021. Existing ticket holders will be contacted by the Mary Winspear Centre box office for ticket exchanges or refunds.

Thank you to Buddies Toys for helping us pick out gifts for our 0-9 age group which accounts for 111 toys. We are so happy to be able to purchase all our gifts this year in Sidney! If you donated to the campaign this 100% of your donations are going back into our local economy.

Tomorrow we get to shop! All gifts will be purchased on the Peninsula to support our local stores and economy. Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign so far. This year we are providing for over 200 children in our community.

Saanich Peninsula Holiday Toy Drive This Year We Are Going Virtual! Peninsula Santa’s Helpers announce their annual holiday toy drive beginning on Friday, November 13 running through to Friday, December 18. Due to COVID-19, the Toy Drive will be accepting monetary donations exclusively this year.... During these unprecedented times, we must continue to provide for those in need while keeping our staff and volunteers safe. Therefore, we will not be accepting any toy donations in person this year. New to this year’s campaign, donations will be used to purchase gifts on the Saanich Peninsula with a focus on supporting community businesses. Peninsula Santa’s Helpers works directly with the Sidney Lions Food Bank to connect families in need, exclusively on the Saanich Peninsula, with support during the holiday season. Thank you to our 2020 community partners including the Mary Winspear Centre, Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank, Peninsula News Review and Sidney Business Improvement Area. Any and all support is graciously accepted. We know that the need is heightened this year due to the pandemic and we ask if you can support the Toy Drive, please consider contributing.
