Due to the recent restrictions announced for HRM, Maskwa is closed as of this morning until a return to training is approved by the Province. ADCKC is working with the provincial government to develop a return to training plan for when it is safe to do so. Year round and spring group coaches will be in touch with their athletes this weekend to provide an update. Thanks everyone for their understanding.
Way to go to all, including Maskwa athletes Andrew Billard and Bret Himmelman!

We are pleased to announce the hiring of Jacob McKenna as Assistant Head Coach! In this role he will be responsible for the Academy & Masters programs and supporting the Head Coach in overall supervision of the club's paddling programs. Jacob began coaching at Senobe in 2014 where his work was instrumental in the club's success at the U12/U14 and National levels. Jacob has worked to develop athletes of all ages and disciplines and has worked with both development and high ...performance athletes in his various roles. Jacob joins us from his current role as Assistant Head Coach at Banook. Jacob is currently completing his Competition Development coaching certification and is completing a history degree at St. Mary's. He also works as a program assistant with HRCE. Jacob is looking forward to getting started with the Academy and Masters programs and to working on growing the club's off-season programs. We are excited to have him on-board and hope you will join us in welcoming him to Maskwa!

Huge congratulations to all the Maskwa athletes who made the Atlantic Team!
We would like to welcome Christian Hall as the new Head Coach at Maskwa! Christian has been coaching since 2010, and comes to us from Pisiquid, where he has been the Head Coach for the last 4 years. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Head Coach for 5 years at Senobe. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from MSVU, a Juris Doctor from UNB, and numerous coaching certifications. He sits on the CanoeKayak Canada Coaches Technical Committee, as well as their National Officials Committee,... and comes highly recommended by many within the canoe kayak world. When asked about his new position at Maskwa, Christian said "I'm incredibly excited to get to work with the athletes, parents, coaches, and board at Maskwa! I've seen the growth and success of the club over the last decade and can't wait to build on that solid foundation. Our sport is so special in that an 8-year old getting in a boat for the first time and a high performance athlete competing internationally can be part of the same team and I look forward to delivering quality programs for all parts of the Maskwa family." Christian lives in Dartmouth with his wife and infant son, and is excited to get started at Maskwa on October 19th. Please be sure to welcome him to Maskwa!
At Maskwa, we are all connected to each other and the paddling community both near and afar. One special connection we all hold is with Maskwa athlete Mark de Jonge. An Olympic medalist, World Champion, and world record holder, Mark is an inspiration to so many people, not only for his Olympic success, but also for his spirit of always giving back to the community and for being a genuinely nice person. Tragically, Mark's sister Carlin was in a terrible accident earlier this m...onth: while out for a bike ride with her young family, she was involved in a collision that severely injured her spinal cord, leaving her with a medical assessment of a below-the-chest full paralysis. In addition to the life changing impact, there are major financial hurdles this family now must overcome. Carlin’s family home will require retrofitting to help with her mobility and independence using a wheelchair. Numerous costs will add up for special equipment, an accessible vehicle, and possibly a personal care assistant. A Go Fund Me has been set up for donations to help with these costs and alleviate some of the financial burden being placed on the family. If you can help by donating via the below link, please do so. We have no doubt that Mark's sister is equally as wonderful as he is, and the family would be incredibly appreciative of any support you can give. https://gf.me/u/y2m6kv
