Friday Facts with The Massage Bro . .... This week we're discussing Deep Tissue Massage! What is deep Tissue Massage? Deep Tissue is a specific type of massage technique that’s mainly used to treat Musculoskeletal issues such as, sprains, strains, and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target inner layers of muscles and connective tissue. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue. It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation. What are the benefits of Deep Tissue Massage? Deep tissue massage, unlike other massage techniques that focus on relaxation, helps to treat muscle pain, and improve stiffness. It can also help to you unwind mentally along with the following conditions: Deep tissue massage offers both physical and psychological benefits. Unlike other massage techniques that focus on relaxation, deep tissue helps treat muscle pain and improve stiffness, but it can still help you unwind mentally, too. It can also help with the following: ~Chronic pain ~Lower back pain ~Fibromyalgia ~Recovery from injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injury) ~Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome ~Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back. ~Limited mobility ~Osteoarthritiss pain ~Sciatica ~Tennis elbow What happens during the massage? Since deep tissue can involve your entire body or just one area, before your massage begins your massage therapist will want to know about your problem areas. Your massage therapist will then start by warming up your muscles using a lighter touch before they start working on your problem areas by using a deep kneading and stroking with varying amounts of intense pressure. . . Thinking a deep tissue massage is what you need? Give us a call to book with The Massage Bro! For new clients, first 1 hr. massage is $15 off!

Wellness Wednesday . . Let's talk post-massage care! Today it's all about that hydration!... Why it's important to get your water in after your massage? Massage increases blood circulation and hydrates muscle tissues. We've all had those omg moments during a massage, right? That's the blood flowing to areas that have been nutrient deprived and blocked by constricted muscles or trigger points. These muscle knots are potent and toxic to your body and require the assistance of water to be flushed out. Water is what our bodies need to flush out lactic acid and metabolic waste that causes knots and pain. When a muscle is dehydrated it searches for a water source, and if it can’t easily get it will cling to another muscle tissue instead. The simple fact is that massages are dehydrating. Kneading and working the muscles gets the fluid pumping out of the soft tissue and into the circulatory system, where it heads towards the kidneys. Therefore, it’s especially important to drink water, not only because it flushes toxins out of your system, but it ensures that your massage does doesn’t go to waste! So, when you leave your massage appointment, drink that water! And remember, you should never drink or smoke after getting a massage as a massage increases circulation, and alcohol and nicotine have a stronger effect after a session. . . Book now! New clients receive $15 off their first 1 hr. massage.

Mental Health Monday . . Today's all about massage & anxiety... What is anxiety Anxiety is more than occasionally feeling anxious. People with anxiety worry excessively and persistently about any number of things money, health, family, work and so much more. It’s generally diagnosed when a person reports being preoccupied with worry on more days than not. Anxiety can range from mild to debilitating and can prevent those affected from enjoying social situations, pursuing work advancements, traveling, or trying new experiences. Other symptoms include: ~Feeling restless or on edge ~Rapid breathing or hyperventilation ~Increased or heavy sweating ~Difficulty concentrating ~Irritability ~Muscle tension ~Insomnia and more... How can massage help with anxiety? Massage therapy can help your body relax and let go of any anxious and fearful thoughts. It can help relieve muscle pain and tension, improve circulation, and increase flexibility. As a relaxation technique, massage therapy can work to manage the fight-or-flight response, (or stress reaction), that is typically overactive among people with anxiety disorders. The fight-or-flight reaction is responsible for causing those fearful thoughts and reactions that often outweigh any actual threat in the environment. A fight-or-flight reaction typically leads to uncomfortable physical symptoms, such as shortness of breath, accelerated heart rate, excessive sweating, and chest pain. Massage therapy can have the opposite effect on the body by awakening the relaxation response, reducing tension, lowering your heart rate, taming the flight-or-fight response, and generally making a person feel calmer with less anxious thoughts. . . At The Massage Bro we take mental health seriously, especially with the current state of the world right now. We strive to make your visit to us as comfortable and stress-free as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to give us a call. Call now to book! New clients receive $15 off their first 1 hr. massage.

Friday Facts with The Massage Bro . .... Let's talk about Trigger Point Therapy! . What are Trigger Points? Trigger Points, or muscle knots, are spots in soft tissue that cause deep aching and pain. Forming from injury, bad posture, and even working out, these can grow like weeds if you do not take care of your body. There are many possible causes of unexplained muscle aches and pains, and trigger points are only one piece of the puzzle, but one that can relieve pain almost instantly. These spots can be very sore and painful when being worked on, depending on the severity of the injury or your last massage appointment. How do you get rid of Trigger Points? By releasing or softening a muscle knot to reduce/eliminate the knot pain and associated pain. This release happens when your massage therapist applies various levels of pressure to the muscle knots, and then follows up by stretching the affected areas through a complete range of motion. Though this can help, keep in mind that the body is always producing new ones, so it's important to see a therapist once a month or a few times a year to stay on top of it. . . Need more information on Trigger Points or have some you need taken care of? Give us a call and we'd be happy to book you in and answer any inquiries you may have!
