Next Thursday, author Callum Angus will be in conversation with Hazel Jane Plante and Corinne Manning in celebration of A Natural History of Transition. This collection of short stories disrupts the notion that trans people can only have one transformation. Like the landscape studied over eons, change does not have an expiration date for these trans characters, who grow as tall as buildings, turn into mountains, unravel hometown mysteries, and give birth to cocoons. Tomorrow Don't miss the PilipinxPages book club! Your host Archie will be discussing C.E Gatchalian's 'Double Melancholy'. Part memoir, part cultural commentary, and a hybrid of besotted aesthetic appreciation and unsparing critique, 'Double Melancholy' is by turns a passionate love letter to art and an embattled examination of its oppressive complicity with the society that produces it, and the depths to which art both enriches and colonizes us. 6pm PT Online Register t...hrough PilipinxPages https://bit.ly/2QKQsxv

'The Bridge: Writing Across the Binary' is a writer’s deeply compelling story of growing up nonbinary in the 1940s and ’50s. Join the author and special guests for the launch May 19th at 7pm PT. https://buff.ly/3nUMwGw Most people know their gender identity by the time they are two or three. My memories don’t go back quite that far, but as far back as I do remember, I was never certain. I asked my mother and grandmother over and over again, ‘Am I a boy, or am I a girl?’aske...d so many times they got sick of answering and started getting mad at me, and then I would hear, ‘I told you!’ They always told me that I was a boy, but I was never convinced. It would take me over sixty years to arrive at a clear understanding of my problemI was trapped inside what we now would call ‘the gender binary,’ the notion that there are only two choices. In The Colour of God, author Ayesha Chaudhry explores the joys and sorrows of growing up in a fundamentalist Muslim household, wedding grand historical narratives of colonialism and migration to the small intimate heartbreaks of modern life. What happens to a country that tells generation after generation of white men that they deserve power? What happens when success is defined by status over women and people of color, instead of by actual accomplishments? Through the last 150 years of American history from the post-reconstruction South and the mythic stories of cowboys in the West, to the present-day controversy over NFL protests and the backlash against the rise of women in politics Ijeoma Oluo exposes th...e devastating consequences of white male supremacy on women, people of color, and white men themselves. "Mediocre" investigates the real costs of this phenomenon in order to imagine a new white male identity, one free from racism and sexism. Join Ijeoma Oluo, the author of the New York Times bestseller "So You Want to Talk About Race", in conversation with author Cicely Belle Blain, hosted by @HBGCanada and Massy Arts. Wednesday, February 24th, 4 pm PST. https://massyarts.com/event/ijeoma-oluo/ *Purchase a copy of "Mediocre" from independent bookstore Massy Books to receive entrance to this virtual event. * Purchase here: https://bit.ly/39E7nbA Image descriptions: 1- Ijeoma Oluo's headshot. 2.
