baby blond I’m obsessed with these bright blonde tones with a hint of gold. We have lifted her cleanly, so the gold doesn’t appear yellow, and we get this beautiful bright result. Leaving some warmth in your blonde will make your blonde tones look brighter, because they reflect light better than ash tones do.... This client loves the heavily blondes look, therefore she requires maintenance often. We do a full head of highlights every 8-10 weeks to keep her looking her brightest

This client and I have been working on creating a lower maintenance look for a few years now. She started off very dark, and we’ve had a couple large processes to get her where she is today. This visit we did a platinum card, where I alternated between lifting out the blonde tones, and low lighting in some silver tones. This allowed me to blend her color where the blonde started and leave her natural root. That way we get a soft silvery blend that still looks modern and fresh.

rooted blond shag This is our second global blonding appointment, so we were able to reach those bright white hair goals. This client was kind of liking how her root grew out from her first appointment, so we decided to add on a shadow root to add depth at the root. It gives a softer look to an all over bleachout! We finished her service with an on-trend textured shag haircut. This look gives me serious fairy vibes!

The many stages of a color correction... This client came to me tired of colouring her hair black to hide her greys. She wanted to go for a silver tone that would help camouflage as they grew in. She had gone elsewhere and the stylist had tried doing highlights without doing a color remover first. See how they show up as red tones? ... When lifting out dark pigments, it’s important to start with a corrective color to get the best results. Are they expensive? Not when you think if it in the long run. Generally something like this takes 6 or 7 separate appointments to achieve without one, and the results aren’t as good. These appointments can span over the course of a year or even two, and often clients aren’t satisfied with the results as the change happens very slowly, and they end up paying more money in the long run trying to get where they want. Color corrections are priced per hour. Typically your first appointment will run at least seven hours, but that involves doing several back to back color removers to lift out the pigment all over. Then doing a color to transition you into the lighter tones. The longer your correction, the better your result. Will your hair be dry? Yes. Will it be perfect the first shot? No. But by lifting out the pigment universally, it gives us a better base to start from. Providing she takes good care of her hair, she should reach her goal within one to two more appointments. 7hrs @ 100/hr

Why are regular appointments so important for bleachouts? You need to get your regrowth touched up every 4-6 weeks or else we end up with a dreaded yellow band. What causes this to happen? Once the regrowth grows past 1/4 inch, it doesn’t have enough heat from the scalp to allow it to get as bright as the hair closer to the scalp.... Lockdown pushed this blonde beauty’s appointment back, so we missed out on the proper timing for a bright blonde. How do we fix this problem? There are a few options! If the client wanted to stay a bleachout, we could still do that! It would just require a much longer (and more expensive) appointment to fix it, as we would have to lift the band and be careful not to overlap. These appointments are considered corrective work and are priced by the hour. Another option (and the one we chose; change is good!) would be to highlight the regrowth and add a shadow root. This blends the line of demarcation, allowing for a softer grow out. We won’t be able to go back to a bleachout, but we will convert her to highlights instead. It’s a much lower maintenance look, with no harsh lines, or yellow bands!

box color blunders Did you know that the pigments in box color are harder to lift out than the ones in professional colors? They are designed for maximum deposit, which is fine for the consumer who doesn’t want change! They are often much higher volume than professional colors, which drives the pigment into the hair and makes it difficult to break up (which means not as much lift), and is also much more damaging than a lower volume.... These results are after three separate sessions trying to lift the pigment. (Before results from the second session) Notice how the first photo has lots of the dreaded cinnamon tones! It’s a very slow process to break through the warmth, and we finally did it! The history of your hair plays a huge role in the results you get. Make sure you’re honest with your stylist so they can set realistic expectations for your results. See more

full refresh This client came to me with very grown out blonde, and wanted to be much brighter and blonder! but she also wanted to keep everything low maintenance as possible, as she only gets her hair done a couple times a year. We achieved this by doing a very full head of foils (195) and finished off with a root shadow and color melt to give it a lived in look, and to keep the grow out soft. Trimmed up her ends to keep it healthy and styled with a modern soft wave.

pink champagne blond This client wanted a change from being forever ashy and we went for a slight blush hue. Ash tones can sometimes reflect drab and patchy and accentuate any slight tonal differences you have. Warming things up slightly keeps things soft, bright and balanced without being boring.

bright bleachout This client was highlighted but still didn’t feel bright enough. She wanted an all over bright blonde, but since her hair was already lightened we needed to be very careful to not overprocess her hair. I did a full platinum card (which is when we put every hair in foils, it ensures a more even lift!) with three different strengths of lightener you ensure we got a balanced lift, while still being gentle enough not to compromise her hair. For some extra insur...ance against breakage, we did a double dose of olaplex. This allows the hair to be strong enough to withstand being lightened again if she wants to be brighter next time (she will!) She hates ashy or violet tones, so we kept her warm and bright with a universally flattering champagne tone. We’re obsessed. See more

dream blond This client has the dream hair! He natural color lifts so easily and effortlessly. She’s meant to be a bleachout! When she first came to me she had some old color in her ends that we’ve lifted out, and we play with her tone each time. She said surprise me! So I delivered. A beautiful pinky violet fairy blonde that dreams are made of. I have serious hair envy!

Think it’s just a retouch? Have a look at the time it took and the price point. This is not my work. But a platinum blonde requires maintenance every 4-6 weeks. Any longer and it turns into a full corrective color. This transformation took 7 hours! More time = more money, take a look at this stylists price point for this service. When your regrowth is beyond 1/2 inch, the heat from the scalp won’t reach it to help it process. This is what causes the dreaded yellow banding we ...sometimes see. It can be very difficult to get rid of and still keep your hair on good shape! This is done by foiling every section of the head (sometimes twice!) to get the lift that’s needed. Sometimes more maintenance is cheaper in the long run, as coming every 4-6 weeks eliminates the pesky banding problem.

From stripey highlights and unbalanced ends to a toned down, softer look. This client had a lot going on when she first came in! She’s hoping for a cooler all over look that is more modern than what she came in with. Because there were so many different tones in her hair, it was impossible to reach her goals today. But she has realistic expectations, so we’re off to a great start! I did a partial balayage to add lightness to the deeper ends, as well as a root smudge to soften her stripes highlights. As you can see from her after photos, this gave us a much more balanced, softer look.

Once you go black, you never go back. Or should I say, it’s much more expensive and time consuming to go back from. This client had come to me with severely overprocessed damaged ends and a black band.... A previous stylist had attempted to give her a silvery lavender in one session, but ended up leaving everything warm and unbalanced. Fashion shades like lavender are not generally achievable in one session, unless you are already light to begin with. Trying to achieve things too quickly can often become more expensive in the long run. In order to correct a color like this, a full color correction would have been the quickest and fastest way to get her to her hair goals. But this is also the most expensive. A full correction wasn’t in her budget today, so we chose to do some corrective foil work. Still pricey, but a more gradual process. Typically corrections cost about the same in the long run, as more sessions are needed for foil work. We are off to a great start today by giving her a more balanced, cooler look.

curly shag Aren’t her purple highlights fun? A color like this generally requires a double process for it to have any sort of longevity. We lighten the hair, then dry it and put the shade of choice on top! Finished the cut with plenty of texture and a long shaggy bang for some serious 70s vibes. Love it!

golden hour Did you know that warmer shades of blonde always appear brighter and lighter than cooler shades? This is due to the way light reflects. An ash (blue) pigment doesn’t reflect light the same way as a golden (yellow) pigment, so often an ash blond will look darker. This happens a lot when we overuse our blue shampoos. It can cause less light reflection, resulting in a drab look. Now, I’ll say it again for you people in the back, that isn’t to say that all golden tones have to look yellow! This soft champagne gives a very luminous sunny look, without the high school yearbook blond yellow of blonde that’s been unrefined. Brighter. Blonder. Better!

brond hand tied weft Did you know that extensions can be used to play with color, without having to lighten your hair? We added one bundle of rooted extensions in this lovely balayaged bronde shade. It adds pops of blond to her usually dark hair, and is totally seamless. Check out the exposed weft in the second photo! They also add great volume for people with finer hair. Just bundle can do you wonders, and the cost to install is no more than a color, cut and treatment. Blonder with more hair? It’s a win win if you ask me.

Same photo, same time, same color! Ones with flash and ones without. See how different a blonde can look in different lighting? This client had come to me with old color through her ends and about 2 and a half inches of regrowth. We did a platinum card, lifting out all the old color to give us this pearly blonde, while leaving her natural salt and pepper root. This gives us a bit of depth at the root with brighter ends, for a more fresh and modern take on growing out the grey

brightest ice blond I have been seeing this client for many years. She listens well to my home are instructions and takes great care of her hair, so believe it or not, this is all her real hair! Your hair CAN be both long and blonde, but it takes some significant effort from both the client and stylist. We just did a partial highlight retouch to maintain her color before we do a large lightening process. ... Third slide is an example of what strange things pregnancy can do to your hair. She gave birth eight weeks ago (in a half an hour I might add ) and she has about eight weeks of light regrowth in the first section of her hair. In the second section, you see how pregnancy hormones had made her hair progressively darker. Isn’t that crazy? Pregnancy does weird things to our hair!

blended box color This client had previously been box colored, she had an appointment with a previous stylist that brought her lighter, but left her brassy and uneven with unbalanced tones. We did highlights this visit and toned everything else, for a much softer look. When it comes to box color, slow and steady wins the race!
