Master Mariners of Canada 25.01.2021

Here is a pilots account recently onboard with Capt Joseph Layus of MV Venus Halo. Shortly after dropping anchor at Ladysmith Anchorage E. As part of my BRM I...’ve started asking how long Capt has been on-board for so I can ask if I’m that time if there’s been any issues with the Vessel. I wasn’t prepared for his answer when he told me 15 months. He was emotional when I acknowledged that he, and his 2nd mate have missed 2 Christmases away from home, and very different ones at that. He has 3 children and the Mate has 2, the youngest only months old when he signed on. Both are crew changing finally when they berth in Vancouver at G3, after waiting at Ladysmith for approximately 10 days. He said he’s very grateful for the ability to anchor in sheltered waters during that time and wants to extend thanks to local communities for allowing to do so where he and his crew have SIM cards and can communicate daily by video with their loved ones at home. #seafarers #supplychain #pilots See more
