Black slate 6x 24 tile in a herringbone pattern. Many people like it for the subtle variations in shades as well as texture. Very beautiful!
Bevel edged tile on a 45 degree herringbone pattern gives this kitchen a unique look.
This is the same shower from the previous post, with fixtures and glass installed.
Backsplashes can really finish off the look of a kitchen. This backsplash is arabesque tile.
This small basement shower has a lot of personality. A feature wall in a different tile is a great way to create added interest. This one was installed by yours truly of course, but the designing was done by Fine Art of Design.
Walk in shower with inset niche.
This shower has 2 features that stand out. The first one is the tiled drain cover. Some people don’t like to see the shower drain and this is a great option. The second is the tall niche. The bottom of the niche acts as a foot rest for washing or shaving and glass shelves can be added to maximize the space for storage.
Large format tiles are increasing in popularity. This shower has 3’x5’ tiles on the walls.

A lot of subtle details in the finished product. Keeping with the same material and working with alternative shapes and sizes can create interest without being too busy in the design.
A standup shower is being prepped and waterproofed for tile. Details are essential when installing a waterproofing system.
This custom inset mat is created from stones the customer found on a near by beach. The stones were arranged to the customers liking, then sealed and grouted. It is located just out side or the shower area so there is a place to stand and dry off, while getting a foot massage from the texture of the stones.
The bathroom is completed. This project was contracted and designed by Catherine McGhie of Fine Art of Design.
The shower is waterproofed in the Prova system. I typically lay out for a custom sized niche and back frame/waterproof it after the wall tiles are laid out. This gives a full tile above and below the niche.
This large bathroom has a combination uncoupling membrane and heated floor cable cradle system. This gives the required subfloor and allows the wires to be installed in a customized layout while leaving them below the top of the membrane so they are not damaged while walking in them during installation of the tile.
A couple of different sized tiles and textures used in the wall to create a unique look. The shower floor is honed marble pieces which feel nice to step on in bare feet.
Basement shower waterproofed and ready for tile with a Schluter system.

The tile ties together this tub and shower combo and wraps around half of the bathroom walls. The shower niche will have 4 glass shelves installed to maximize the storage capacity. The bottom of the niche is lower enough to act as a step for a foot to be placed on for more comfortable leg shaving or washing.
Also installed a brick veneer feature wall for added interest in the area.
Floor tile installed. The difference in tile totally changes the over all look of the areas.
Before pictures of a kitchen floor to be changed.
Shower tiled and grouted. Quartz jambs and natural stone mosaic in the niche, and bevel edge 3x6 tile on a 45 degree, herringbone pattern. With this pattern, I like to continue it from one wall to the next for a wrap around effect.
The corner shower is being waterproofed in preparation for tiling.
This is a custom made in floor heating mat. It comes rolled up and just gets adhered to a proper substrate with high polymer thinset.
Tile installed. Quartz jambs inside the niche and a mosaic inset in side the shower for added style and non slip functionality. Quartz slabs to be installed on the bench top and front as well as custom glass. This project was designed and contracted by Fine Art of Design, based out of Paris. The owner and designer Catherine McGhie also has a store front named Fixtures in Paris Road. Total bathroom and kitchen designs are her specialty.
Pre-sloped shower pan and linear drain installed with waterproofing and on the main bathroom floor and uncoupling membrane and in floor heating wires installed.
Blank slate after demo, then preliminary framing alterations and waterproofing the walls.
This entire basement floor is tiled with in floor heating. The wood plank tile area is used to break up the area. This is the living room area.
Shower completed. Metal mosiacs and quartz jambs in the niche for added style.
This corner shower is made waterproof with Provamat membrane sheeting. I had to correct a small part of the wall under the niche to make it flat for the tile.
Imitation slate porcelain tiles with a hard wood border.
Progress photos of a barrier free walk in shower, with in floor heating.
Marble imitation porcelain tiles with small grout lines. Timeless and practical selection. A quartz sill sloping back toward the tub for the window ledge ensures any water doesnt pool on the sill.
The customer installed cement board prior to my initial consultation. With a proper waterproofing system, other easier to work with products can be used. I typically only use cement board when heat and combustion is an issue, like a fireplace. A paintable membrane was applied in 2 coats and the seams covered with membrane tape thats also waterproof. The inside of the window up to the vinyl frame is waterproofed as well.
Some pics of small showers.
Finished curbless shower.
Job progress photos of a hardwood imitation tile. Stratamat uncoupling membrane was installed first, then 8 x 48 porcelain tile in a random stagger pattern to imitate a hardwood floor.
Install finished! Just some clean up left.
