Unusual Acres' Sarah Nilson joins the Rural Frontenac Tourism Group’s Creative Table. A permaculture farm with an unusual twist. Sarah & Pete Nilson arrived fiv...e years ago from British Colombia and began organic farming on Clarendon Road, 20 minutes north of Sharbot Lake. In that short time, Unusual Acres has developed two annual sales spring garden plants and fall Hallowe’en pumpkins. The latter ends with the Sharbot Lake Zombie Walk with their skeleton mascots, Wilfred & Zelda pictured below. This event attracted 140+ zombies in 2019. In between, they have been mainstays at the Sharbot Lake Farmers Market. Last year, Sarah launched a new Facebook page Frontenac Victory Gardens https://www.facebook.com/groups/2592824734309650 which were a feature of backyards in the 40s to supplement the fragile food security of the war years. It now has 126 members. Local gardeners well know the virtue of backyard freshness. For the past two years, Sarah has contributed to many meetings focussing on tourism in Rural Frontenac and currently serves on its Creative Table. In this time of COVID they have regrouped and have constructed a large green house, 100’ x 30’. One can order no less than 34 different vegetables, herbs and flowers. Good Afternoon Central Frontenac!! Jamie Riddell here to clarify the many reports floating around social media regarding Subway and Square Boy Pizza/Ultramar. K...FL&A Public Health have been actively working with these businesses and the contact tracing. Through these efforts it was deemed these two businesses could continue to operate. In both cases however, the owners of Subway and Square Boy Pizza closed on their own for the safety of their staff and the public. KFL&A public health will continue to monitor and work with both sites through the weekend and into next week. We have a very strong team at KFL&A and they have done a great job with our local businesses as they struggle through this unfortunate turn of events. Hello everyone! With the overwhelming response to our drive by Santa. We have decided to have the drive by on Saturday November 21st at 2:00-3:00 and then again... at 5:30 until 6:30. The address is 5316 Road 38, the corner of 38 and Jamieson Rd. We are not affiliated with anyone or any company. We are just a family that wanted to take advantage of our Santa suit rental and cheer up some families who will most likely not get to see Santa this year. We have our home decorated with Christmas lights and we will be at the end of our driveway to give a wave and a smile. To keep it as safe as we can, especially on a busy road, I ask that you drive cautiously and if it seems safer you can sow down and drive along the side of the road.
