Got lost in the woods today. #runnersofinstagram

All of my running lately has just been about just getting out and doing something: just keeping the ball rolling - because in truth, my motivation and energy has been low. That's one of the biggest things I've learned - when I'm not feeling it, just do SOMETHING. Keep reinforcing the pattern of training in your brain. Even 5 or 10 minutes will reinforce the pattern and actually create some stimulus to maintain fitness. I think I preach this a lot. Too much? I think what I'...m trying to say is that it's ok to have lackluster workouts sometimes - don't feel bad about it. We get caught up sometimes with the idea that all workouts have to be super intense or awesome, and that just isn't the case - the body just doesn't work that way. Sometimes it's a grind, some days energy is low. It's normal. And sometimes you really do need a day off - and that's fine too. But for a lot of people, myself included, just maintaining the habit of training can be very powerful. Most people either train super hard, or just do nothing for weeks or months and lose all their progress. I see this over and over... And it's why I encourage the "just do something" mentality. 7 minute abs really does work for just this reason. If you wanted to lose weight you can see how effective this would be - either losing or maintaining, instead of losing or gaining? Maybe you've been watching my core streak (though probably not - day 73 now!) but you would notice that some days my training doesn't look amazing. Like today for example (in my story) - not so impressive. Less intense movements, less reps. I don't like it, but I'm still getting it done. Yesterday was good. And tomorrow will be better. Today was meh, but I DID IT. If you want to do better than 99% of the people out there, just make sure when you're not feeling it, that you just do even a little something to maintain. Then you'll have 2 states: maintaining, or progressing. Your net effect is then continued progress. That other 99% is either progressing or regressing, and their net effect is zero. 6k at the track with a few hill reps after. Then home for a little bit of weights and core. #consistencyiskey

Merry Christmas! Good tidings and all that crap. Now go workout! Santa doesn't want cookies anymore, he wants his reps! #repsforsanta 5k hilly run + hill sprints 50 pull-ups + bicep work 14 minute of core (primarily obliques today)

Someone just asked me what my favorite Christmas traditions were, and of course I said, "Exercise!" But not for the reasons that you think. It's not about staying consistent, (although that's also great) but it's about enjoying the holidays more. Christmas food tastes so much better after you've earned it. When I train hard, it's like I've earned that spot on the couch. So I enjoy the holidays more, can eat and lounge guilt free, and as a bonus manage to maintain consistency.... I remind my clients training doesn't have to be crazy. They don't have to run a marathon Christmas morning (although that would be a pretty cool Christmas tradition , now I'm getting ideas) but just get out there and do something you enjoy. You won't regret it! #runnerswholift #runnersofinstagram #gymmotivation #trailrunning #personaltraining #personaltrainer #strengthandconditioning #consistencyiskey #paytheman
