Guess who made this? Our youngest, Eli, and I have been experimenting with another wood art idea. For this one, he took a piece of pine, drew his design, I cut it on the band saw and rounded the edges, he painted the pieces with acrylic washes that he mixed, then we glued it all back together. A Matt and Eli original idea (as far as I know). Thrilled with the result and a super fun activity. Lots of movement in this one. There is a dominant "direction", but also the fun of getting turned in the maze. I wanted to play with a darker background and lighter wood strips - in this case I used poplar because it has a unique warm grey tone that matches well with the briarsmoke background stain - they really work together.
