Large bore cylinder, on cylinder retract stroke, rod end of piston pushes almost twice as much flow from cylinder base end. If jaw opening (cylinder retract) mode flow is set at 70GPM, 140GPM is pushed back to the carrier via main control valve spool. This results in high pressure drop and heat generation. #MDV2020B is pilot operated high capacity #diverter valve that selects fluid from P to A or B. On jaw closing mode, normal bi-directional mode, cylinder base is connected to machine’s main control valve. However, during jaw opening mode, fluid from cylinder base will be dumped directly to tank. This reduce pressure drop and heat significantly. Combined with manual dieter valve, a machine can be utilized for B (breaker) mode and P (pulverizer) mode.

Excavator Pump Controls : NFC and PFC When it comes to troubleshooting or designing auxiliary line of an excavator, it is important to understand pump control system first. Pump's displacement is controlled by swash plate angle & movement of servo piston, whose position is determined by bias spring and pilot pressure. NFC, Negative Flow Control, and PFC, Positive Flow Control, are most common ones among open center systems. With NFC system, as name implies, decreased pilot ...pressure results in pump displacement increase. With PFC system, one needs to increase pilot pressure to send more volume to implements. Most of CAT machines uses NFC system, while Hitachi/John Deere uses PFC system. As machine become bigger, it makes more sense to use PFC system considering the energy wasted at idling. Running main hoses/ tubes is one thing, but one need to find a way to put a pump to work. Comparison Note between two types of material processors. Dual Cylinder Design : Each jaw is powered by each cylinder and two cylinders are hydraulically balanced with doubled crushing force. Without positioning any jaw against the material, two jaws will be self-centered ; no stress will be applied to carrier's frond ends. Single Cylinder Design : The fixed jaw must be positioned against the material. Otherwise, there will be stress concentrated on carrier's front ends.

80% of hydraulic failure comes from contamination and the rest I'll blame poor maintenance, machine abuse and/or rarely poor design. When it comes screw-in cartridge valve, especially spool type construction, there's not much gap between moving parts. Even tiny debris or contamination can sabotage the valve's function. Look what I found ; rubber piece - got into the system externally or internally & fouled the valve.
