Maxi's Miracles 11.09.2020

What we experience more often than not in this world is the feeling of isolation and being unloved. I am sharing this beautiful Michael Jackson song in the hopes that others will share. Share with the people in your life. We all need this message. Pay it forward, from your heart, to all you know..........MM <3

A Maxi Miracle - Hit by a truck (lorry) in London During the mid to late 1980's I traveled extensively with my NGO the Children's Liver Foundation. On one particular occasion my colleague Lourdes Aviles and I were in London. We were returning to the US from a medical conference in Switzerland. We had a free day, so we decided to go exploring. Living in America where traffic flows on the right, we were wary as we walked in the busy streets. I recall I was wearing my knee high ...Italian leather boots which I had purchase on an earlier excursion in Milan. Lourdes and I were mesmerized by the multitude of fashion stores as we strolled along. Across the road, in the middle of the block, I spied a lovely little shop. "Let's go there" I said. Excitedly I stepped down from the curb. I quickly looked to the left and the truck came from the right. Whack!!! My right foot was under his left front wheel and his rear view mirror "grabbed" me by the side of my head and spun me around. I didn't fall down :-) but just stood there dazed. A crowd began to gather. The poor driver apologized profusely and asked did I want to go to the hospital??? I thought about it, but only considering that I could go to the Royal Free Hospital and meet Dame Sheila Sherlock - internationally known liver specialist. What an opportunity!!! I declined the offer, saying I was fine. I hobbled to the sidewalk. I examined my foot, without removing my Italian boot, as maybe due to swelling, I would never get it back on. I guess because the truck was going soooo fast, it luckily skimmed over my foot and my "hard" head had deflected the impact of the rear view mirror. If I had stepped out an inch further, I may not have been here to tell the story. As a woman on a mission, my time was not up! My focus was on connecting everywhere with those who could help me in the awareness of liver disease in children and how to prevent suffering through empathy. Every moment in my life and even up to today, I perceive as an opportunity to do this. The issues change and are compiled through my own life experiences, but the manner in which I live, remains the same - Trusting in Peace and Love - being a PAL.........MM <3

One of Maxi's Miracles Dr Thomas E. Starzl, An icon, the father of liver transplantation. I met him in 1981 at the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) annual meeting in Chicago. I was there with my NGO the Children's Liver Foundation to learn of the latest scientific and medical research in children's liver disease. (I lost my first child Danielle at age 3 from Biliary Atresia) This particular AASLD meeting is referenced in this article. It is describ...ing how David Yomtoob, a 13 year old suffering from Wilson's Disease had been successfully transplanted by Dr Starzl. It was miraculous to see the transformation in this young boy! A crusader and a renegade, Dr Starzl is not one to acquiesce his convictions. There were rumblings from some after David's presentation, that it was like a circus act! The following year, I attended a meeting at the NIH to determine the efficacy of liver transplantation. I was invited to be part of the program. Dr Starzl asked me to introduce David during my presentation. I was delighted to do so. I told the panel I was cutting my time short so they could hear from David's mother. Who better to enlighten us about Dr Starzl's amazing feat! I was aghast when the panel chair said "I am sorry, we have run out of time" I was summarily dismissed from the dais. One of the most eminent hepatologists, Dame Sheila Sherlock's statement "The children should be outside playing in the sunshine" left me dumbfounded. There were many children and their families in the audience. Regardless, the NIH panel experts made a determination that liver transplantation in children would be recognized as a viable therapy. I respect this man immensely. In his 80's and now retired, he is still part of the scene at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, University of Pittsburgh. http://www.stiresearch.health.pitt.edu/ Kudos Sir. Forever Grateful to you.......Maxine (Turon) Silva http://www.pittmed.health.pitt.edu/story/only-starzl-dared

Where do I begin to tell the story of a Life??? I'll start in the middle I guess. I was still married, but separated from my second husband Eduardo Silva, when he committed suicide. I am assuming in an alcoholic stupor. It was a violent death of a man with so much potential, but he was unable to Kick his habit of binge drinking. And I sure as bloody hell was not going to talk about it. I was the perfect wife, the Florence Nightingale, the angel on earth! What was his problem...Continue reading

I am taking my show on the road! It has been a while coming but now the time is right. Feel the fear and do it anyway.! Each of us walks this earth with innate abilities to do good in the world. It is our raison d'etre. I am in the process at the moment of creating my Page. Its express purpose is to SHARE my experiences which have molded my perspectives on God, Life , Love, Death and all aspects of our Human condition. Ultimately this has led me to INDIA (and I promise this ...is true) discovering and embracing Maxine Alexandra Bernadette Murphy aka Maxi. My greatest Gift is my ability to connect and communicate with people, regardless of language, culture, religion, ethnicity, gender and politics. My life's course has been strewn with challenges and hardships, with incidences of births, deaths, divorce, family alienation, suicide, mental and physical abuse, addiction, widowhood, financial loss, serious health issues and the list goes on. And yet today, I am GRATEFUL to God for ALL of it. Without these occurrences, I believe I would never have gotten to this wonderful place in my life. You see, no matter where I go and no matter with whom I speak, I will ALWAYS find something in common with that person. That;s the Gift that keeps on giving......allowing me to connect, because on some level, no matter how small, we ARE the same! No different - the same. The trick is to find that commonality and fears are eliminated - Trust develops. Then Love/Compassion can blossom. I do not say these words lightly. This is My experience. More to come............Maxi <3 See more
