Meet Coach Makayla! Makayla grew up in St. Albert and started skating in the CanSkate program at age 3. She began figure skating at age 6 and skated at the St. Albert Skating Centre for 11 years. Her favorite discipline to compete in was Freeskate, and she has always loved jumping and spinning! In 2016, Makayla received the STARSkate Athlete of the Year Award. She has also received the Quad Gold Award and was the Gold Triathlon gold medalist at the STARSkate Championships in ...2016 & 2017. Makayla volunteered as a program assistant for 5 years and completed her CanSkate coaching course in 2015. She is currently a Trained Regional Coach and is working on completing her Regional Certification. Meet Coach Aleiandro! Growing up in a small town, in Rainbow Lake Alberta (10 hours north of Edmonton), Aleiandro started taking skating lessons when he was 7 years old hoping to play hockey as soon as he could skate! Instead, he got involved in figure skating and started in the STARSkate program when he was around 10 years old. He looked up to figure skaters like Patrick Chan growing up. Before Aleiandro started coaching, he volunteered as a program assistant for 4 years and... ended up receiving the Edmonton Region and Alberta Section Program Assistant Awards in 2016. He began his professional coaching career in 2017 and enjoys working with kids! Meet Coach Leona! Leona is a Skate Canada National Coach through the National Coaching Certification Program. She is an enthusiastic and dedicated skating coach who brings a unique blend of experience and creativity to the sport. She started skating at the age of 6. Her journey through the coaching world over the past four decades has given her the opportunity to interact with a broad spectrum of skaters, coaches, parents, executive and volunteers who have helped her excel... at her profession. She has earned the Section Coach of the Year Award and the Volunteer Coach of the Year Award in her career. She brings a fresh approach to teaching skating at all levels and maintains a focus on ensuring all her skaters learn to love the sport. Leona is a Learning Facilitator for the CanSkate Coach Courses through Skate Canada and has facilitated motivational workshops all across the country. Her school teaching experience has also helped her to be very organized, well planned and creative. As per the Alberta government requirements, all CanSkate classes are currently cancelled. Hopefully we will resume classes on November 28. Cancelled classes include: Parent & Tot PreCanSkate, Jr. CanSkate, Advanced CanSkate, Adult CanSkate and CanPowerSkate.

A reminder that there are no classes Wednesday November 11th.
