Mayne Island Community Chamber of Commerce 28.12.2020

On this rainy Sunday we are excited to bring you our feature on Mayne Lights . What better way to light up a grey, rainy day than candles? They can be contacted at [email protected] and are a virtual business run from their workshop on Mayne Island. 1. What types of items do you carry? -We make hand crafted, sustainable clean burning coconut soy wax candles and beeswax food wraps.... 2. If you could buy yourself one (or two) things from your own shop to have for Christmas what would those items be, and why? -I would buy a large vintage jar candle in lavender cedarwood scent. I love the look of the vintage jars and the joy of finding them! The candle light is extra pretty through these beautiful jars. The lavender cedarwood scent is my personal favourite, and makes me think of Mayne Island. 3. Do you have something for sale that people might not know you have? We've started selling a few of our scents in sweet black metal tins, the perfect little gift or stocking stuffer! 4. Something interesting about yourself or your business. -I light a candle every morning when I get up, the light is soft and easy to wake up with. I usually have at least one burning in the house, if not a few. We're always testing something, a new scent, container, etc. 5. Anything else you would like to add? -Thank you for liking our candles and beeswax food wraps! We enjoy being part of the maker community on Mayne Island. Thanks Mayne Lights! #MayneIslandLiving #mayneisland #candles #smallbiz #shoplocal The Southern Gulf Islands

We asked our members some questions to help you get to know them better, just in time for the holiday season. First up is Books On Mayne, which is located in the Fernhill Centre Mall at 574 Fernhill Rd. Answers were provided by the wonderful Gail Noonan, owner of the shop. 1. What types of items do you carry? -I primarily carry books that I like to think of as gently pre-read with a smattering of new books. I also have greeting cards, postcards, booksmarks and have recently... introduced CDs by local musicians. 2. If you could buy yourself one (or two) things from your own shop to have for the holidays what would those items be, and why? -I have already bought myself a couple of CDs and would like to buy a number of books that keep getting snapped up before I ever have a chance to read them. 3. Do you have something for sale that people might not know you have? If yes, what? -People might not be aware that I have postcards printed on a letterpress, CDs of local musicians or knitted pumpkins. Actually I am out of pumpkins but I do have knitted Christmas trees with freshwater pearl ornaments. 4. Something interesting about yourself or your business. -As a neophyte bookstore owner I have realized how important it is to listen to the people who come through the door. I have learned so much about the books on my shelves from people pointing to something they have read and telling me about it.They are my teachers. 5. Anything else you would like to add? -If the book you were dreaming of reading is not on my shelves I can track it down and order it for you even if you aren't quite sure of the title or author. Or maybe it wasn't a book you wanted at all but a knitted pumpkin. Thanks Gail! #MayneIsland #MayneIslandLiving #shoplocal #SGI The Southern Gulf Islands #bookstore
