BOUNDARY PASS - WHALE HIGHWAY April 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm online Do you want to learn more about whales that live in the Salish Sea and how we can help them thrive? We do! So - we have invited researcher Lucy Quayle from Simon Fraser University to share what she has learned about local whales and the challenges they face in local waters. ... Last year I spent the summer on Saturna Island researching whales in Boundary Pass. Using land-based observation methods, my research focused on when and how whales use the waters off Saturna Island. I will present on the most common species that I observed including humpbacks and orcas. As vessel disturbance is one of the main threats to whales, I will also show some of my findings on vessel/whale interactions in the area. Finally, I will touch on ways you can get involved with citizen science research and make a difference. Lucy just completed her Masters at Simon Fraser University and British Columbia Institute of Technology. For her research she collaborated with the Saturna Island Marine Research and Education Society (SIMRES), the Saturna Cetacean Sighting Network and the Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation program. to register for this event follow the link - https://mayneconservancy.ca/ev/boundary-pass-whale-highway/
