We are continuing the fight to keep EMS Dispatch local!

Mayor Don Scott 29.12.2020

As we begin a fresh new year, I am thankful and very much appreciated the opportunity to spend the holiday season here at home in our community. As Mayor, it is also my hope and desire that everyone in our region follows and respects all health guidelines and recommendations related to COVID-19 in order to protect our community. This is an important time in our collective response to the ongoing pandemic and we need to continue supporting local business and each other by stay...ing safe and doing our part. We all know our local businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic, and their ability to survive will depend on our commitment to supporting them through this difficult time - but our region is no stranger to difficult times, and we, perhaps more than any other region, know how to meet a challenge. In 2020, we were all asked to make adjustments to our lives to keep ourselves, each other, and our region safe. At the beginning of 2020, my hope was to visit my parents in New Brunswick a couple of times during the year, including hopefully during the 2020 holiday season. I have not seen my parents since February 2020, just a couple of months after my father, who is 84, suffered a stroke and was still recovering. Like many of you, I was unable to visit my family for the remainder of 2020, and I can only hope to see them in 2021. I, along with all of you, hope 2021 is a better year for all of us, and one that again allows us to enjoy the family traditions and celebrations - and normal life activities - that we have had to give up to protect each other. I am hopeful that this will be the case, but I know that challenges remain ahead of us. Stay strong, stay safe and stay well - and thank you for everything you do to protect yourselves, each other and our region. Mayor Don Scott

It’s an honour to receive the first poppy from the Royal Canadian Legion again this year. We must never forget and always be grateful for the sacrifices made by those who have served our nation. I’m proud to wear the poppy and honour all those who lost their lives in service, and all those who have served and continue to serve our country.

Congratulations to Shoppers Drug Mart downtown on their grand reopening today! It’s great to see another local business impacted by the flood reopen, serving the needs of our community and providing employment to fifty residents.

Grateful for services like Red Arrow that provide access for our residents to other parts of the province! This morning I’m headed to Edmonton for Thursday’s meeting regarding keeping EMS dispatch services in our region.

Regional Fire Chief Jody Butz and I will defend the municipality’s position against consolidation of EMS Dispatch services when we meet with the Honourable Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health, and the Honourable Tracy Allard, Minister of Municipal Affairs this Thursday, at the Alberta Legislature.

Wood Buffalo residents, we need your help. We all know that seconds can save lives, so keeping EMS dispatch services local will help to protect the residents of our region when they need that help the most. And if you have a few seconds, you can help us save lives too - please fill out the form in this link and let the Government of Alberta know that we want dispatch service to stay in our region! ... https://apps2.rmwb.ca/EMSLetter
