Today marks the first anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. While there was a trial and a guilty verdict, acts rooted in racism continue across the globe, nation, province, and city daily. We've rallied, talked about it, passed motions, and cried out for change. I'm going to use my white privilege and position as an ally to continue to demand change. What does success look like? A diverse community where ALL citizens thrive, where equality and equity are embedded in all... we do. Where we don't have to fight for it, the "System" delivers these protections. Not only for our current population but for all future residents too. Since the Rally, we passed a historic motion calling on the Provincial and Federal governments to make racial discrimination illegal. Current status? My last council motion was to have the city manager review and report back on the city joining the UNESCO Coalition Against Racism and Discrimination. There are many tangible actions that the city could implement to show leadership. See motion here https://bit.ly/3xMlNjX Today I'm wearing a T-shirt with a straightforward message. Enough is Enough; stop being a Racist. The only way these critical issues will be addressed is when good people stand up, demand action, and measure progress toward our desired outcomes. The most important changes are always the slowest to be dealt with; this needs to change. Will you join the movement?
Happy national nurses week. Health care simply would not function, without your dedication, commitment and compassion. You have been tested over and over again during the Covid outbreak and you have answered the call. Thank you. #NursesWeek2021
Tonight we will know, who has the awesome responsibility, to sit around the council chamber and represent the best interest of citizens. Thank you to all of the candidates who put their names forward; it is a great sign of a strong democracy.
Our citizens know what progress feels like, and I believe in my heart that they want more of it for everyone. Let’s build on our momentum and create a city where everyone can live, work, and play. Vote well, Saint John!
Happy mothers day, to all of the moms n our region. Wishing you a fantastic day. "What 'Mother' Means" "Mother" is such a simple word, But to me there’s meaning seldom heard.... For everything I am today, My mother’s love showed me the way. I’ll love my mother all my days, For enriching my life in so many ways. She set me straight and then set me free, And that’s what the word "mother" means to me. Karl Fuchs
Wishing you all a Happy Victoria Day. I hope you've had a wonderful, restful and safe weekend.
I want to live in a world like this...
I'm sure my time as mayor had nothing to do with the colour change. Does stress turn your hair grey? You tell me2016 first day on the job, and this shot from Friday.
Thank you to the Saint John Newcomers center staff and volunteers, who've made a massive difference in so many lives. Greater Saint John must grow its population to thrive, and we can't do that without support for newcomers. Please join me in being an ambassador by welcoming and supporting our new residents with open arms.
Please help find Kyle. Please share this post. Today I spoke to Kyle's dad, and as you can imagine, they are desperate to find Kyle and have him come home safely. I can't imagine what his family is going through. If anyone has any information, please message his family or let the police know. We are certainly praying for a positive outcome.
My condolences to the families that have lost loved ones from the impacts of Covid 19. Each of us can play a key role in following the directives of Dr. Russell as we wait for our vaccinations. To all those working tirelessly on the front lines, thank you.
Democracy in action. Despite Covid restrictions, your City of Saint John council continues to meet. Tonight we discussed many files. Here's the full agenda, and if you have any questions, please let me know. https://bit.ly/3bvG1pq
