Thinking of laying some in-floor heating piping on your own? KNOW YOUR PEX PIPE! The type, size, and length of piping used for in-floor heating is very important. The wrong materials or install practices could make the system nonfunctional from the start. Pex Pipe used for heating MUST be oxygen barrier pex.... Pipe spacing for in-floor heating should be between 9-12". Each loop should be similar in length and no more than 300' long. Also, minimum R10 insulation must be used below the in-floor slab. Do you have a big box like this one hanging in your house somewhere? Did you know your HRV has filters and a heat exchanger that require regular maintenance? This is something you can do yourself quite easily! Simply open the front cover, pull out the filters and core, vacuum or wipe the inside of the unit to remove any dirt or dust, soak the core for 20 min in the laundry sink before giving it a good rinse, and put it all back in....
