CRA has increased the non-taxable amount employers can use for overtime meal or allowance, or the meal portion of travel allowance from $17 to $23 per meal.This is retroactive to Jan 1, 2020.

Just to remind everyone that if you took advantage of the WSIB payment deferral program those remittances are due August 31, 2020.

The 2019 Alliston Lions Christmas Food Hamper and Toy Drive kicked off with the delivery of our "Red Barrels of Happiness" to collect any non-perishable food items and/or unwrapped toys for children up to the age of twelve. Monetary gifts are most welcome so we may purchase gift certificates for teens. Last year our community provided food for 173 families and gifts for 270 children. Please consider bringing a donation into the MB Bookkeeping office or drop one off at one of the many red barrels you will see at retail stores in our town.

FRIENDLY REMINDER - Tax deadline is TODAY for self-employed persons. If you or your spouse or common-law partner carried on a business in 2016 (other than a business whose expenditures are primarily in connection with a tax shelter), your return for 2016 has to be filed on or before June 15, 2017. Kathleen Wynne made an announcement this morning that will affect all workers and businesses in Ontario. Increases in minimum wage, paid vacation and sick days... Minimum wage will be increased to $14 on Jan. 1, 2018 and to $15 on Jan. 1, 2019. Part time workers are to be paid the same wage as full time workers.... After 5 years working for the same company, an employee will be entitled to 3 weeks of paid vacation. Fair rules for scheduling. Employees are allowed up to 10 sick/personal days with 2 days paid.

Do you make a habit of using your business account or credit card to pay for personal expenses? Many small business owners make this common mistake. Keep your business and personal finances separate. Write yourself a paycheque instead, or transfer a lump sum into your personal account. Same goes for paying business expenses from your personal account. If you need to, transfer a lump sum from your personal account to your business account. This is called a shareholder loan. In the long run, this will save you money, save your bookkeeper time and will save everyone lots of headaches!
