I’ve had a lot of clients ask me if I’ll be able to remain open during the lockdown and the answer is YES Massage therapy is a regulated profession and we are health care providers so we will be able to remain open and I will follow protocols very closely to keep everyone safe. I will be posting the January schedule for online booking this evening now that the lockdown is official. I’d like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Thank you all for making me feel so welcomed and I’m looking forward to 2021.

Since moving to Cornwall I’ve been getting involved with a cat rescue which has always been something I’ve wanted to do with my daughter since we share a love for animals. This month I will be selling tickets for Christmas baskets which will help raise money for the rescue and one basket contains a gift certificate for a 30 minute massage. Massage by Design will be experiencing many changes in the coming months and it was a very difficult decision to make but in the end it was the right one, after twelve wonderful years we will be relocating our clinic to Ottawa and I will be restarting on my own this time as Adam changes careers and joins the Ottawa paramedics. It breaks my heart to think of closing our clinic that weve worked so hard to build together over the years but an amazing opportunity has come ou...r way and I couldnt be more proud of Adam for getting a position with Ottawa paramedics. Now, that being said Covid 19 can just go away because I want to reopen before leaving since I cant imagine leaving without seeing my clients again, unfortunately Adam will not be coming back since he already started his position in Ottawa and we will be joining him there hopefully by September at the latest, just have to sell our home and hopefully the office by then. I can not thank you enough for all of your support over the years I was truly blessed to have such wonderful clients. I will be contacting everyone personally that had appointements before we closed in March once the government and our governing body says we can reopen and Im really hoping I get to see all of you before we leave . COVID 19 & Massage Therapy Update First of all I would like to thank all my valued clients for their patience and support over the last two months. These have been confusing times and I would like to clarify as much as I can about the announcement made last week and how it pertains to my own Massage Therapy practice. On Wednesday, May 27th the Ontario Government and the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health have provided a new directive for Regulated Health Professionals t...hat allow for a gradual restart of services to be carried out with adherence to guidance from each health professions regulatory college. The directive includes Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) under the guidance of our College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). I want to clarify that this announcement was a general statement which means not all Regulated Health Professionals will be opening at the same time or at the same rate (or at all, for now). At this time our College, the CMTO, is not expecting RMTs to return to practice if they do not feel it is appropriate or safe to do so. The CMTO also encourages limiting the number of in-person visits by prioritizing clients with essential care needs. Treatment is considered essential when: the clients overall health or function would considerably decline if treatment were not provided (i.e. lead to hospitalization or other serious health consequences). Our first priority as Massage Therapists is to the health and safety of ourselves, our families and our clients and to ensure that the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. Our State of Emergency has also been extended in Ontario to June 9th and social distancing is still in effect which I will be continuing to follow. I will update my clients further when I can foresee a potential date to begin reopening my own practice but now is not that time. We have just begun to receive direction on practices and procedure guidelines that will need to be put in place before I can open safely. These include, but are not limited to, the pre-screening of clients before every treatment, increased frequency of handwashing & cleaning practices, increased signage, documentation and record keeping of practices, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks for myself and clients and additional health & safety training. Please remain patient as implementation of these guidelines and the obtaining of sufficient PPE due to shortages can be a lengthy process. As I have stated before the health & safety of myself, my family and all of my clients is my top priority. I will only return to practice when I feel it safe to do so and will keep everyone posted. Just want to say a special thank you to everyone for your words of encouragement this week, its been a challenging week with so much uncertainty and so much heartache. We had to close our clinic for weeks maybe months (who knows) which was a very difficult decision to make but was in the best interest of our clientele and family. Weve faced many challenges over the years while building our business and have always come out of every challenge and obstacle with the support ...and encouragement of our wonderful clients. As we all face hard times ahead were trying to remain positive and hopeful that we can return to normal day to day without much loss and we are looking forward to seeing all of you again. In the mean time we will take the time to enjoy our little family and cottage life while trying to remain positive in these uncertain times and remember that we will overcome this challenge too.
