Here is a copy of the Library Tour video where you do not have to turn your monitor on it's side. We saw the video properly as it was shot but on Facebook it was turned 90 degrees. We would like to thank our Librarian Mavis Gray for hosting this Manitoba Day tour. . Welcome to the MGS Library! https://youtu.be/mCzTY2Z-OBs
We had technical issues linking this video to the live feed. This is the prerecorded section with interviews from the MGS Research Team
Creating a Tribute Webinars and video series. by Gordon McBean and friends This webinar and video presentation series will look at a number of ways that you... cancreate a tribute to share with others this Christmas. Write Your Family story Piece by Piece. Start looking for the stories behind the people, places and events you have uncovered in your research and write up short stories. Christmas is coming and we may be thinking of sharing our family history with other members of the family. After all we have worked on it all year and have some new information to share. We have all seen their eyes gloss over when we start talking about graves and census forms. A place to start is to write up a short article on your "First Manitobans" and submit it to the MGS "Generations" Editor. I have submitted several this year. Now that I have started writing short stories I am looking at what else I can do with this information to make it appealing to other members of my family. I have been assembling a number of ideas and will be trying them out. In this series of upcoming webinars and recorded videos I will introduce you to a number of media projects you can finish in time for Christmas. Information on the series can be obtained by: visiting the webpage https://mbgenealogy.com/webinar-series-creating-a-tribute-/

Happy Halloween!!
As school children we learn this poem by John McCrae including the origin and meaning behind it. As adults, in our busy lives, we may forget the meaning, and the reasons why so many may have sacrificed all for the greater good. Let us take the time to honor those who sacrificed for our freedoms, some we may know personally, but for the greater many that may go unnamed we honor them too. Due to the Winnipeg Region moving to Code ORANGE status or restricted level on the COVID-19 pandemic response system, the Manitoba Genealogical Society Resource Centre has been closed to the public as of October 19, 2020. A decision to reopen the centre will be addressed as new information from Manitoba Government is provided. All on line services will continue during the closure. Many processes will continue remotely or by individual volunteers as was the process during the spring closure. STAY SAFE! We'll see you again soon. https://mbgenealogy.com//mgs-resource-centre-closure-to-p/

The Manitoba Heritage Summit attracted about 300 people today.
Last Saturday's AGM and Council meeting online
The Manitoba Heritage Summit, Winnipeg, Online Thursday October 1, 2020. Attendance metrics 346 registrations. Top cities for registrations #1 Winnipeg, #2 Sel...kirk, #3 Brandon. At any given time, there were 170-180 people on line. Numbers started to go down at 3:30 with the youth and technology panel (130-140 on line) and 102 during the wrap-up. Sheldon McLeod did a great job moderating as well as wrapping up the highlights of the day. Note the variety of devices used to connect (Cellphone, laptop desktop computer).
This pan of the origination room shows the set-up and how many people it took to produce the feed from the Millennium Centre. This beautiful old banking manager...s office was a move from the main banking hall required when we had to move the face-to-face event totally online. Find out more about the event by following the Manitoba Herritage Sumit's website for updates and progress on creating the whitepaper at http://www.mhs.mb.ca/heritagesummit/ See more
The Manitoba Genealogical Society held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. The AGM, usually held in June, was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic currently in its second phase of spread. The AGM was held at the NorthWest Law Enforcement Academy in Winnipeg with limited in person attendance and with a larger group of members attending remotely via Callbridge.
