Over the past couple of weeks, since my mother Filomena passed away, I have reflected on her life. In many ways, through contemplation and meditation, you soon realize that this journey is actually one of personal introspection. Her life is the energy that propels you to reflect on life's meaning and purpose. I am grounded in my mother's values, principles and beliefs. They have always made sense to me because my mom lived them. Her actions were perfectly aligned with those v...alues. In that sense, I had a front-row seat witnessing the magic of what a life lived in authenticity and generosity looked like. There is something to be said about living a life where noise and static are eliminated and replaced with peace and tranquillity. A few years ago, I wrote a poem entitled Life. Upon reflection, I believe that my mother held the pen. I share it with you to celebrate Mother's Day and remember we honour our mothers by living our truth. My poem is my mother's message to all of you: Life's purpose is clear You see it when your eyes are open You feel it when your heart is open You understand it when your mind is open You experience it by doing You appreciate it by giving You create it by loving For one cannot see it with closed eyes One cannot feel it with a closed heart One cannot understand it with a closed mind One cannot experience it through idleness One cannot appreciate it with selfishness One cannot create it without love On this journey you will hear the bell The sound will guide your path The louder the sound the farther you are The quieter the sound the closer you are When silence prevails the journey becomes the destination Only then will you experience The Way

#Vaughan resident, Jacob Cantkier, has raised more than $1,000 to date in support of Food Banks Canada. Thanks to Jacob’s creativity, passion and dedication to his community, he has helped provide more than 2,000 meals to people in need. His efforts will also support food insecurity in Northern Canada, particularly among Indigenous communities. Nicely done, Jacob!
