Manitoba Quarter Horse Association Inc 01.06.2021

New Public Health Orders have been announced for Manitoba and came into effect Sunday, May 9. Thank you to Manitoba Horse Council for continuing to track and advise what this means to the equine community. The following is the breakdown, but as always, we encourage you to reference the government site for more information (link provided at bottom). We will continue to update as more announcements are made. The public Health Orders #13 and #14 as of Sunday, May 9, 2021: OUT...DOORS: Outdoor sporting and recreation facilities may open. Persons may engage in any type of outdoor sporting or recreational activity but they must not engage in an activity as part of a group of more than 5 people. (Per Sport Manitoba, the 5 people includes coaches, trainers etc.) No organized team games are permitted at an outdoor sporting facility. Outdoor lessons are allowed, within the group of 5 people as above. No spectators are permitted at an outdoor sporting facility. (Per Sport Manitoba, the Safe Sport Rule of 2 must always be followed so one parent/caregiver may attend with a minor if there is not a 2nd adult coach or other responsible person available. The parent/caregiver is not classed as a spectator.) INDOORS: All indoor sporting facilities must be closed while these Orders are in effect. Regarding boarding facilities: As in previous lockdowns, if the facility owner allows, boarders/horse owners may attend to provide essential services to their animals, such as feeding, grooming, medicating, and light exercise. No inside lessons are permitted. Professional service providers such as vets, body workers, farriers, trimmers, etc. may attend. Boarding facilities must still maintain contact tracing/attendance lists, and require social distancing, mask wearing, sanitizing etc. DAY CAMPS All Day camps for children must be closed while these Orders are in effect. Notwithstanding the above provincial instructions, all facility owners, event organizers, participants and attendees should comply with the MB Government requirements of hand washing sanitizing, social distancing, mask wearing, contact tracing, waivers etc. Public Health link; https://manitoba.ca//proa/20212022/orders-soe-05082021.pdf

It is with the utmost regret that the MQHA Board of Directors has to announce the cancellation of the Summer Sizzler, June 5 & 6. Sadly COVID19 restrictions on a number of fronts, including the ability of our Judges to attend has dictated the decision. We are however in the process of planning a smaller event on that weekend, so please continue to watch our Facebook page for further details. We look forward to see you at this show in June 2022!

EIA information shared from Manitoba Horse Council, so heads up. To take your mind off Covid... for those considering bringing in horses from the West. Seven cases of EIA have been reported in Alberta, and one in Saskatchewan. We do not know the circumstances but it's a heads up for planning Coggins testing for this season. More information on the outbreak is here: https://www.cahss.ca/cahss-networks/equine

Sponsorship Shoutout. I’d like to thank Elders Equine for all the help they provide us horse owners when we’re in need, and by sponsoring our association.

We need some help! The trophy is from a Quarter Horse show in 1980 which was held in Carman. I’m using it to draw attention only to our search for information and dates regarding the original formation of the Manitoba Quarter Horse Association (not the show in Carman). I myself remember going to watch a Quarter Horse show in Glenboro, probably in 1978.... If you have any information or clues about finding the information please PM myself Patricia Odlum or Wanda McFadyen. We are also looking for old pictures & their stories for our Instagram page which Courtney Penner manages. Please let us know if you have information to share. We would also really like to see your pictures and/or the stories you have to tell. Thanks
