Exciting news! Skate Ontario has recognized WTSC for our delivery of Skate Canada / Patinage Canada’s CanSkate programming in the CanSkate Excellence Recognitio...n Program! The CanSkate Excellence Recognition Program is designed to recognize skating clubs/schools that implement best practices in the delivery of their #CanSkate programs, Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate programs that emphasize teaching quality, fundamental movements and basic skill development. WTSC now joins a list of about 30 skating clubs in Ontario (out of a total of about 300 skating clubs in the province) that have been recognized for their strong delivery of CanSkate programs. Moreover, we are the only skating club in #Toronto to have earned this recognition to date WTSC has always had strong CanSkate programs, but we are delighted to see the Club now being recognized for its delivery of Skate Canada’s programming standards. We are incredibly proud of our coaches for the excellent work they do for our skaters and for the Club. Please join us in extending our congratulations to our new Program Director, Michael Coreno, and to the entire coaching staff for this wonderful achievement! #SkateWTSC

McCormick Arena encountered electrical issues with the lighting during the summer that prevented a reopening. A project for a complete lighting replacement was put in motion. This project is currently underway and the high-bay fixtures over both ice surfaces have been installed. McCormick Arena will open on a limited basis in the evenings for the West Toronto Skating Club beginning Monday, November 2. Work on the lighting will continue during the day and on weekends. As wo...rk on the lighting progresses we will open up rentals to other users. The current regulations in modified stage 2 will only allow us to use one rink at a time with a maximum of 10 skaters. The changerooms are closed and no spectators are allowed. No game play is allowed. No birthday parties or family skates. Only skills, drills, figure skating and power skating. Skaters must always remain 6 feet apart while in the building and on the ice. Please refer to article 13 of Ontario Regulation 263/20 for more information on the current restrictions: https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/200263 and the City of Toronto’s guidelines for arena use during COVID-19: https://www.toronto.ca///982a-guidelines-for-arena-use.pdf and Tip-Sheet for indoor ice rinks. On November 10 the City of Toronto announced Public Health Measures for Red Control Level and Toronto Public Health Specific Enhanced Measures for at least 28 days starting on November 14.
