We hope everyone is finding ways to stay warm this week! We are trying to warm the school up with some fun as well. Thursday is our Formal Wear (Dress Your Best) Day with a turkey dinner provided for free for all of our students. Friday is Red/White/Pink Day - and students are welcome to bring valentine's to give out (just please no food or candy items).
This week is Staff Appreciation Week in Regina Public Schools. We have some of the most incredible people working at McDermid and are thankful for all of the big things they do, and all of the little acts of love and kindness they do every single day. Our community members haven't been able to see much inside our building this year with covid, but we can tell you that our admin team daily sees staff finding ways to bring love, laughter, connection, and joy to our students. If you have time, help us to celebrate these heroes by sending them a note of thanks.
The weather has gotten colder, and while we do keep students indoors when it gets colder than -25, we want to make sure students are dressed properly coming to and from school. If you are in need of coats, ski pants, toques, mittens, etc. please let us know. We are a team and want to help. Students who do not normally stay for lunch are more than welcome to stay at school on colder days.
Love is one of the 7 Grandfather Teachings, represented by the eagle. The Eagle’s teaching of love can be found in the core of all teachings, therefore an eagle feather is considered the highest honor and a sacred gift. Love is caring deeply for someone else: being devoted, tender, protecting, kind, honoring, patient, hopeful, and forgiving. In order to love others we must also love ourselves. This month we will be reminding students that it is important to think about our o...wn health and get help when we need it. This might mean asking for clarification with an assignment in class, eating well, getting enough sleep, or reaching out to Kids Help Phone. When we know love, we know peace. It is everyone’s right to have and experience love. This month we will be talking about that right, and the responsibility all of us have to make sure we protect that right for others. Day of Pink takes place on February 24th, which is a great time to remember that we all have power to stand up and take care of those around us.
THANK-YOU for all of the pictures you have sent in of your families reading at home! There is still time to take a photo today and get it in by tomorrow morning to participate in our draw for Indigo gift certificates. All we need is a photo of your child reading with a family member - send it to facebook, our email ([email protected]), or to the classroom teacher through Seesaw or Google Classroom. We are thrilled to see so many of our families taking time to read together!
