When the Bonnechere was the main way of moving logs Renfrew was an important stopping place. This is the town side of the river to the right of the swinging bridge, a lumber camp. The museum is in the back left behind the pole. The old dam in front of the McDougall Mill has parts of it visible today just below the museum.

April 9th and one of Canada's finest hours; the assault on Vimy Ridge in WWI. We honour the local men who died on April 9 in that campaign: Samuel Walker, Joseph Quilty and William James Wright killed on his 25th birthday. Clifford Brisco and CJ Lavalee were killed a few days later. We also remember the men whose names are engraved on the Vimy Memorial: Guy Barr McIntyre, Ambrose LaPlante, Thomas Cruise, George Mclaren, Peter Cybulski, John Leterski, Basil Scott, Phillip Freemark, Lloyd Smith, Fergusson Bremner. We will remember them. #RoyalCanadianLegion

Continuing the Barr/ Quarry St. pics. Here are two showing how Barr St ended at Quarry and continued as a field path to Hall. The old convent can be seen on the left of the first pic.

This view of the corner of Patrick and Raglan has not changed too much. The building now houses Valley Bytes.

If you love Downton Abbey you will remember Princess Mary the Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood. She was the only daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Mary, her brother Edward is the Prince of Wales that is mentioned in the movie. He went on to abdicate so he could marry Wallis Simpson. Mary's second brother acceded the throne and became King George VI. Princess Mary is best known for the gift boxes that every soldier on the front was given for Christmas 1914. Small b...oxes made of silver for officers and brass for all others, decorated with an image of Mary and other military and imperial symbols and typically filled with an ounce of tobacco, a packet of cigarettes in a yellow monogrammed wrapper, a cigarette lighter, and a Christmas card and photograph from Princess Mary. Some contained sweets, chocolates, and lemon drops. 40,000 were delivered by Christmas 1914 and 2.5 million had been distributed by 1920. Our museum has one of the brass boxes, its contents long since consumed. The movie is still playing at the O'Brien Theatre in Renfrew See more
