On Days of Rememberance like today, the Maritime College of Forest Technology reflects on our history. The college first opened its doors in 1946. Why 1946? Veterans had returned from the war but had enlisted at such an early age that they had no formal training in other fields, and there was a demand for lumber to be harvested. The Maritime Forest Ranger School opened as a means to educate and train veterans on how to work in the woods so that they would have a reliable livelihood. These were the ones that returned and were able to begin a new life, living with the memories of war and mourning those that did not return home. So, on days like today, we Remember.
