Standing in Solidarity In recent weeks, the Black Lives Matter movement has gained traction across the world, sparking outrage against the systematic racism that continues to victimize Black members of our society today. The injustices that are taking place are not solely occurring in other parts of the world. Unfortunately, systematic racism remains a prevalent force within Canada, particularly against Black and Indigenous communities. Now is the time to show our solidarity... to those who are continuously oppressed and to speak out against racism. In order to incite progress, we must let our government know that this needs to change. Sharing information on social media, having conversations with family members and friends, and educating ourselves are all great ways to begin fighting racism in our communities. However, there are many more actions that we can take to contribute to the movement. Signing petitions, donating to organizations committed to combating systematic racism, supporting black-owned businesses, participating in protests (if you can do so safely), and voting for government representatives who will fight against these injustices are all crucial during these times. While our Instagram account has posted several stories containing some resources, we encourage our followers to look at accounts such as @colourofchange @theconsciouskid @naacp @showingupforracialjustice , to name a few. Social justice, respect for diversity, and non-violence are core values of the Green Party of Canada, and we refuse to be silent while fellow members of our society continue to be subjected to systematic racism.
