2 weeks ago today, the McGill Sports Management Club hosted its 4th annual edition of #TheMcGillFutureOfSportsConference. With record-level attendance and some incredibly thoughtful discussion on the future of the sports industry, we look back at a fantastic event! A special thank you to our partners BCF and MVP and all the speakers and moderators, without whom this event would not have been possible! We look forward to building on the success of this event in the new academic year and hope to be able to welcome you all once again!

Speaker Reveal Meet Trevor Timmins: Promoted to Assistant General Manager in July 2017, Trevor Timmins is entering his 17th season with the Montreal Canadiens. He oversees the Canadiens' amateur scouting system, including the annual NHL Entry Draft and amateur free-agent recruitment. Trevor also oversees the Club's amateur scouting staff, covering Canada, the United States and Europe.... Trevor also supervises the annual NHL combine, as well as the Canadiens' own combine, a pre-draft player evaluation process which takes place at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard every summer. Timmins is in his 25th season in the NHL. He worked with the Ottawa Senators from 1992 through the 2001-02 season. From 1999 to 2002, he was the team's director of hockey operations. He was responsible for the scouting department, the minor league affiliate, budgeting, and the daily operations of the hockey department. He has also held the positions of scouting coordinator, strength and conditioning coach and director of team services with the Senators. Timmins is a graduate of Queen's University in Physical Education. He also completed a Master of Business Administration (Queen's) and earned a Master's degree in Sports Administration from the University of Ottawa. He was born on January 5, 1968, in Almonte, Ontario.

Meet our moderator, Julian McKenzie! Julian McKenzie is a journalist, broadcaster, and podcaster based in Montreal. He is a weather presenter/reporter for CTV Montreal. He is a graduate of Concordia University’s Multiplatform Journalism undergraduate program and Syracuse University’s Television-Radio-Film Master’s program with a Sports Communications Emphasis. Julian is also a freelance sports writer and the Montreal Canadiens live game blogger for the Montreal Gazette. He is also a sports stringer for the Canadian Press newswire and a writer for Habs Eyes on the Prize. He has also made appearances on TSN 690 Montreal and CJAD 800 AM Montreal.

Meet Benjamin Alamar! Benjamin Alamar has been a leader and innovator in the data science and analytics space for over 15 years. He has developed cutting edge analytic tools and built analytics teams for numerous organizations including ESPN, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, and most recently StubHub. His work includes innovative models that have informed decisions on both the sport and business side of organizations, building high performing teams that work in... partnership with decision makers, and working with top level executives to effectively incorporate data and analytics into the decision making process - including developing a pioneering workshop for executives at StubHub on data in decision making. Benjamin also has a distinguished teaching career that includes courses at Columbia, MIT, University of San Francisco, and Menlo College. He has published numerous research studies in sports analytics and has written on sports analytics for outlets such as ESPN, Analytics Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal. Additionally, he is the founding editor of the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports, the first peer-reviewed academic journal for research in sports analytics.

Meet Danielle Berehowsky! With a track record of success in sales and marketing in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry, Danielle has leveraged her knowledge in these areas to bring Drake Berehowsky vision of an accessible hockey analytics tool to teams across North America and Europe. Statstrack has grown from an idea on paper to an organization bringing REAL time data, video and analysis to a roster of teams. Statstrack continues to experience significant growth as more teams embrace having quantitative information about their team and players. Danielle is currently the CEO of Statstrack.

Meet Scott Macintosh! Scott is the Head of Sports Analytics & Business Development for SAP’s Sports & Entertainment Group in North America. SAP’s focus is building innovative platforms that drive insights from data in the Smart Stadium, Fan Identity and Sports Performance side of the business. Prior to joining SAP, Scott spent over 15 years in the sports industry on the team side with MLSE, Ottawa Senators & a few MiLB teams in the BI/Analytics, Ticket Sales and Sponsorship space. He earned his Master’s Degree in Management Analytics from Queen’s University and holds an MBA from McGill University.
