A Wildly successful Family Day at the Toboggan Hill in McLennan. Lots of Children, Hotdogs, Marshmellow, Hot chocolate and cookies were shared by all. Both fire-pits going to keep us all warm.

McLennan Parks & Recreation Board 05.06.2021

A TOWN WORKING TOGETHER Starting in the 60’s and opened up by Gerry Demeule, the Toboggan Hill has been a favorite place to go during the McLennan Winters. Nam...ed by local children Dead Man’s Cliff. Recently Gilbert Demeule thought it would be fun to serve Hot Chocolate to the children to warm them up. This of course would require a garbage can for the cupsand so it began. A simple post on Facebook, looking for a garbage can. Of course, picnic tables and fire-pit would be nice too. In the meantime, Kate Blackmore posted a Picture of a Sled & Toboggan Lending Library with the statement wouldn’t this be great for McLennan. That was all it took to get Dan the Stickman off and running. Within Days we had 2 picnic table donated by DJ & Grant Hicks, a Fire-pit and lots of hot chocolate mix donated by Darlene and Roger Bruneau. A cash donation for supplies of hot chocolate, cups and more was given by Reetika David. Theresa Demeule began making signs for the Lending shed, and both groups began working together. Dan the Stickman donated the wood we would need by the Fire-pit, and cleared the ice and path to get there. As well, an area for the table, fire-pit and wood was cleared with the help of Gilbert Demeule. Once our Polar Vortex Passed, we’d be in business, in time for Family Day. Toboggans and sleds have been donated by Dan the Stickman, and Marilyn Brulotte. The garbage Can came from the guys at the town shop, who also modified a barrel for a second fire-pit. We hope to have the Lending sheds placed and filled very soon. The fire-pits will be removed when the weather warms to prevent the temptation of fires during fire season.

Yesterday with the help of the Falher IDA Pharmacy, we dropped off some care packages of toiletries, books and lotion for the residents at the Manoir Du Lac. We hope that this small gesture brings a little ray of sunshine to the residents in this challenging time. And that they understand that they are always in the thoughts of the community as a whole. Stay safe and stay healthy.

MD of Smoky River, we have our first COVID-19 cases in the region. It is important to know that even though the Alberta govt site has Falher on it, this map is ...for our region not just our town. It includes all of the MD of Smoky River and the towns and villages. So we don’t know where it is and in some ways that’s good. This lets us worry about our neighbours as much as ourselves. We have been working on the assumption that there was already cases here. Our Smoky River Fire Department members have been receiving regular updates, we have been making changes to help ensure service to the public and preparing for the upcoming spring season Emergencies don’t stop and neither will we. We have great leadership in the MD, towns and villages. Life will go on but life has definitely changed in the last few weeks. We as a community need to stay strong, follow the guidelines set out by AHS and take care of each other. We will flatten the curve. We have businesses that are struggling. If you can, support them do so. Order out once a week from a different restaurant, shop local. Don’t overbuy and save stuff for everyone. Work together as a community and we will get through this. For my Fire department brothers and sisters, now is the time to step up, work as a team and do our best for our community. Set aside our fears and differences and protect our citizens. Thanks for all you do. Marcel Maure Director of Emergency Management Director of Protective Services Regional Fire Chief MD of Smoky River

McLennan Parks & Recreation Board 03.05.2020

Our final Chase The Ace evening turned out to be our most successful one yet. The Legion was packed with excitement as patrons waited in anticipation to see wh...o would be the lucky nightly winner. It turned out that Jackie Bouchard would have some good fortune shine down on her as her ticket was pulled guaranteeing her $465 and affording her a chance to find the Ace of Hearts and a shot at $3,528!!! Unfortunately for her it was the 9 of Clubs that would make an appearance last night. So that concludes our fundraiser for this winter. The jackpot of $3,528 will be donated to Smoky River Palliative Care. A truly deserving charity that benefits our entire region. We wish to thank our volunteers and non profit societies for making this all possible. More importantly, thank you to each and every one of you who came out to socialize, laugh and donate each week! We are confident we will see you all back next winter!

McLennan Parks & Recreation Board 03.04.2020

Tonight’s the last night of our Chase the Ace fundraiser, Friday, March 13th. Will Friday the 13th bring some good fortune for one lucky player, or will it shine down on Smoky River Palliative Care? Let's see if we can pack the house and get our jackpot up to $3500 to close it out!!

McLennan Parks & Recreation Board 24.03.2020

Thank you Tom Henihan for the great article!

McLennan Parks & Recreation Board 19.03.2020

Our 2nd last night of Chase The Ace was another fun filled night of laughs and stories. The lucky winner was McLennan's own Randy Jones! Randy took home $321 fr...om the nightly sales pot, but was unsuccessful in his search for the Ace of Hearts. He had a shot at the $2830.50 jackpot but came up short by finding the Six of Hearts! Only one Friday remains for our fundraiser and that is next Friday, March 13th. Will Friday the 13th bring some good fortune for one lucky player, or will it shine down on Smoky River Palliative Care? Let's see if we can pack the house and get our jackpot up to $3500 to close it out!!

McLennan Parks & Recreation Board 01.03.2020

There was some excitement in the air at the McLennan Legion last Friday night as our Chase The Ace jackpot started off at $1792! By the time tickets were sold and it was draw time, it had jumped up to $2349!! Ursula Valiquette was our lucky winner for the evening and she was fortunate enough to leave with $371 & was afforded the chance to draw for the Ace of Hearts. She was unsuccessful in her search as she found the Queen of Diamonds instead. Only 2 weeks remain for the chance to take home the big prize. Hope to see you all there this Friday!

McLennan Parks & Recreation Board 25.02.2020
