Several very clever students aiming for Fall 2021 applied early and have already received acceptances, and it's not even December. One athlete, with scholarship, into St. Lawrence U; one musician/composer, with scholarship into Berklee, the famous music school in Boston; one who's just a terrific student has an offer from U Minnesota - Twin Cities. Despite a stressful year, we're expecting even more exciting results.
Well, Ontario's shut down again, no SAT's this year. For those needing an ESL test, we've just heard of Duolingo -- affordable, takes about an hour, can be done online. Find out if your college choices will accept it in place of IELTS or TOEFL. I know Purdue will.
Kudos to all our students, braving quadmesters, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, struggling to connect with teachers/counselors... who knows what? The only consolation is that if you can deal with this, you can probably deal with anything academics may send your way in future.
My fave online publication www.collegetrackr.com is hosting a number of super webinars next week, Oct 19 - 26, including all divisions of NCAA for future college athletes, as well as women's colleges that I'll be moderating, plus Claremont Consortium in California, plus others. Collegetrackr is free to join, and I strongly recommend you check it out.
Current secondary students having a rough time. One reports chemistry class of 5 hours' length. Another reports "mask-ne" (face break out from wearing a mask). One was allowed outside with her class for a break, enjoyed fresh air/no mask so much she didn't return on time and got locked out. One motivated guy says online learning isn't learning at all, struggling with calculus. We adults admire your efforts and wish we could give you a hug.
