While OPIRG McMaster realizes that reading is not enough to fully engage in advocacy, doing so is an important first stepone that is particularly well-suited t...o our current remote learning reality. That's why OPIRG McMaster is excited to announce our first-ever Book Club Fund! The aim of this fund is to support virtual book clubs at Mac that are discussing themes of social justice and environmentalism. In particular, preference will be given to book clubs focused on anti-Black/anti-Indigenous racism, or those giving space to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or people of colour) authors, as a response to the mass protests against racial injustice and police brutality that took place in the summer of 2020. As part of this grant, we will provide funding for the purchase of books (either non-fiction or fiction), and also cover any costs associated with mailing the books to book club participants. Whenever possible, we will try to source books from independent book stores to support local businesses. Applications are due by Friday, October 9, 2020 by 11:59 pm! Please feel free to DM us or email [email protected] if you have any questions. APPLICATION LINK: https://forms.gle/ZKXZmDEzVgeVgq2W6 . . . We are now taking applications for funding towards student book clubs focused on social justice issues. Preference will be given to book clubs discussing anti-Black or anti-Indigenous racism, or to those highlighting BIPOC authors. Applications due October 9, 2020 at 11:59 pm.]
