It’s #MentalHealthMonday, our series in collaboration with the McMaster Okanagan Mental Health Task Force! Mental well-being encompasses our emotions, our thoughts and feelings, our ability to solve problems and overcome difficulties, our social connections, and our understanding of the world around us. Establishing strong mental health strategies help us cope with difficulties when they arise and maintain positive mental well-being. Pain is inevitable, but suffering doesn’t ...have to be! A reminder that the MHTF is currently seeking feedback from all members of the McMaster community to help inform our recommendations! Please share your ideas about issues impacting the mental health and well-being of faculty, staff and students at McMaster and any ideas, strategies or solutions you want to suggest. The link to the feedback form can be found in our bio! #MentalHealthMonday #McMasterMentalHealth #McMasterUniversity #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCareMatters #BeKind #FredRogers #Empathy #EndtheStigma #OkanaganCharter

For many of us, the last few months we have found our lives and realities drastically different from what we were used to. Our work life, education, social lives, and daily routines were shifted for the sake of keeping ourselves, our friends, family, and vulnerable populations safe. Now more than ever is it important to do m...ental health checkups on yourself, your friends and family. If you or anyone you know is struggling, it is important to know that there are resources available to assist you! This post outlines many of the mental health services available right now to any unique circumstances. While these resources were compiled with McMaster students, staff, and faculty in mind, many of them are available to anyone (and available outside of McMaster / Hamilton) Feel free to share these resources on your social media or with anyone you may know. Drinking water is one of the basic and most effective ways in keeping your body healthy. Since our bodies are made of 60% water, consuming water helps maintain a balance of body fluids. Keeping your body properly hydrated positively impacts all areas of you: it energizes your muscles, improves your skin, helps trim calorie intake and helps your kidneys detoxify your body. Experts recommend consuming 8 glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated. We recognize that it can... be daunting to reach this limit, so here are a few tricks to help you reach that daily goal! - Understand why your body needs water - Set a daily goal for yourself. Work yourself up to eight glasses a day if you are not already doing so- this can be a habit you slowly reach over time! - Keep a reusable water bottle with you that has measurements on it so you can keep track of how much water you have drank as well as help save the environment. - Set reminders on your phone throughout the day- it can be easy to forget about drinking water when you are busy with your daily routine. - Dilute your sugary beverages with water- this will benefit your body by lowering your sugar intake. Drinking water should be less of a chore and more of an attempt to help your body function in the way it is designed too! For further tips on how to drink more water, check out this article: https://www.self.com/story/how-to-drink-more-water. #mcmaster #healthandwellbeing #okanagancharter #stayhydrated
