We might have had to stay at home all weekend but that didn't stop us from continuing to explore the world of Arab cooking with The Arabesque Table: Contemporar...y Recipes from the Arab World (Phaidon.com) by Reem Kassis. Here is what we tried. You see the Herb, Garlic and Chili Stuffed Chicken Thighs (page 120) with the Caramelized Butternut Squash Fattah with Za'atar (page 160). Some great new flavours for us! We also tried the Lentil and Vegetable Soup with Preserved Lemon (page 170). I've become a big fan recently of preserved lemons and you can see them displayed above the cookbook below. They really give a blast of lemon flavour in all kinds of dishes. Happy cooking everyone and thanks for reading. See more

The MS Walk is coming up on May 30 and things will be a little different this year. There's no group walk in one location instead we'll all be walking "together but separately" along our own routes and sharing the experience online! For more info and to get started, visit: https://secure3.convio.net/mssoc/site//Walk/NationalOffice We are putting together our own McNally Robinson team (who will, again, be walking together-but-separately), and we hope you'll consider sponso...ring one of our members. To sponsor, visit the link above and look for the "Donate" button, then search for our team. Choose whichever team member you'd like all the money earned is going to a good cause! Thank you for your contributions. Hopefully together we can one day beat MS.

Our wonderful friend, the irrepressible William Richardson (aka Bill Richardson) , will be launching his lovely new children's book, Hare B&B, TOMORROW May 9. What better way to spend a Sunday? 6:30 NDT = 4:00 pm CT, for all you prairie folk. It will be live on Running the Goat's YouTube channel: http://youtube.com/RunningTheGoat as well as their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/runningthegoatbooks. Gorgeously illustrated by Bill Pechet, Bill Richardson's latest is a charming and hilarious tale about self-reliant young hares and a coyote who gets her comeuppance.

I'm very excited to see this new arrival on our shelves; the new book by one of my favorite authors, Andre Alexis. The Night Piece (McClelland & Stewart) is his... collected short fiction, taken from his debut collection, Despair and Other Stories of Ottawa, and Beauty and Sadness as well as a few previously uncollected stories. I had been reading Alexis for years and so was thrilled when he broke through to win the Scotiabank Giller Prize for his novel, Fifteen Dogs (Coach House Books). I recommend everything that he writes. Click here to see more about this new release. https://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/9780771006630//night-piece
