Signs of Dental Disease to lookout for as a Pet Parent! Bleeding or inflamed gums Discoloured teeth (brown or yellow) Loose or missing teeth... Bad breath Irritability Bloody or ropey saliva Weight loss Drop in appetite Excessive drooling Blood in water bowl or on chew toys Favouring one side of the mouth while chewing Dental Disease can cause several issues with major organs; since bacteria from the mouth can enter the blood stream and settle in around the heart. What causes this to happen to our pets? Diet and poor nutrition Grooming Habits Dirty Toys Teeth Alignment Overall Oral Hygiene Bacteria in our pets mouth can accumulate, and eventually it forms plaque. Luckily for us, we can help prevent it! Brushing your pet’s teeth daily(using a toothpaste for dogs&cats) will drastically improve their oral health. There are also dental chews, pet foods and chew toys specifically designed to deter dental disease and reduce tartar development; though they are not for replacing brushing entirely. Like us, they should have an oral health checkup each year! Dr. Magda is always happy to answer any questions you may have concerning your pets oral health. **our model, Peach, has excellent teeth! If you’re following our page, you probably love animals, and you may have said at some point as a kid, I want to be a vet! There’s more to becoming a veterinarian than meets the eye Did You Know?: 1) Becoming a Veterinarian requires extensive education and training! (and you never stop learning!) 2) In general, Veterinarians have to be specialists in multiple fields. From dental issues, to eye problems, and even cancer, they see a lot of cases in a work day. ... 3) Veterinarians share your worry and grief. They devote their lives to caring for and saving animals. 4) Compassion Fatigue is real, and many Veterinarians experience it. We all need time to recharge our batteries. 5) As a Veterinarian, sometimes you have to improvise; unique problems require unique solutions. 6) Veterinarians need to be excellent communicators, both with their clients, and their colleagues. 7) Being a Veterinarian means being prepared for a twisty career path with detours. This field is expanding each day. 8) Veterinarians still have a business to run, just like any other business a vet’s office can experience ups and downs. While this profession is remarkably rewarding, it comes with its share of obstacles. Though we deal with our patients needs each day, we are still a bunch of humans with our own, too! Thank you for expressing kindness to us - it truly goes further than you think! #mcneelyanimalhospital #cvhm #veterinarian #veterinarians #vetlife #veterinarymedicine #ontariovet #veterinaryclinic #veterinarylife #veterinariansofinstagram #localveterinarian #vetmed
