Worker Bees are so important to the hive!
Since we got the bees, we have had honey in our coffee and tea. We love it! Lately, we have been looking at the difference to decide which is better and thought we would share our findings with you. ~Honey~ 1 tbsp honey = 63.8 calories Contains more calories than sugar but you can often use less honey, due to the added sweetness... Contains vitamins and minerals May help alleviate allergies (small amounts of pollen in honey) ~Sugar~ 1 tbsp sugar = 46.5 calories Contains less calories but you often need more than honey No vitamins or nutrients, but it is a natural substance (comes from sugar beet and sugar cane plants) Honey goes through less processing than sugar, especially raw honey. Our honey is raw honey.
What is bloom? You may have noticed that your beeswax candles have shown a bit of a dull finish on them after sitting for a bit. It’s called bloom and it happens when the softer oils in the wax come to the surface. It usually happens when the wax is cold and exposed to air. ... If you’d like to remove it, you can just wipe it off with a dry cloth or if you have a specialty candle like the snowflake one (difficult to get in all the shapes), you can use a hair dryerbut not too close or you may melt the candle.

Beeswax candles burn much longer than most candles, they have a brighter flame AND they are a natural ionizer (produces negative ions which can help neutralize dust, dander, etc. in the air)! Send us a message if you are interested, you can also find them in our Facebook shop!

Did your honey crystallize? Crystallization is very natural and normal in raw honey. Crystallized honey is just as delicious as liquid honey but the texture may not be as enjoyable. What causes honey to crystallize? Honey crystallizes over time as the sugar precipitates out into a crystal form. The higher the glucose, the faster the honey will crystallize. ... Here are some tips on how to make your honey turn to liquid without losing valuable nutrients and enzymes along the way.
The pollen keeps coming into the hive as the bees are finding all sorts of things in bloom. A lot of them are trees right now. It’s so exciting to see them hard at work this early in the season!
The beautiful spring weather has been wonderful, hopefully it continues!! It has us and the bees buzzing with anticipation of the upcoming bee season. We were lucky to see this bee loaded down with pollen on her saddle bags.
During the winter months we have been looking for ways to keep busy...we finally tried out beeswax candles. Now it’s time for the really fun part - burn it!!
This is spot on! Winter is the hardest time for a beekeeper. We cannot check on the bees until it’s at least 10C outside. So when the bees live through the winter, it’s a great thing!
