From Grazing to Garden here is another before and after. This spot has been pasture for more than 50 years. Just a few months ago we started grazing our cows on this pasture along with running our poultry in mobile netting. The results have been amazing. From overgrown, weedy, barron, and nutrient deficient to lush dark green and diversified. After the cows grazed this area we moved in the chickens. The chickens scratched, weeded and debugged this spot in no time. Using the... chicken in this manner eliminates the use of machines and fossil fuels. The next step was to add compost. We added about 12 wheelbarrow loads per bed then raked it out and shaped the beds. This is our take on a no-till approach to gardening. We feel this is the best way to care for our soil because tillage is one of the common practices that destroys soil. Now we just need to add woodchips to the pathways but its all planted and seeded with crops for the fall and were onto building the next garden. Thanks for following us and please like and share.

Turkeys can consume the equivalent of 1/5th their diet in grit. Therefore, a bird which eats 60 lbs. of feed in its lifetime will likely consume approximately 12 lbs. of grit if given the opportunity. Our little baby Turkey's are growing quickly. Fresh greens, premium feed and lots of grit. Soon to be out in our pastures regenerating the land.

This little girl is a trouble maker. She keeps me on my toes. I think she is part deer because no fence is a match for her. The big girls are out grazing around the pond the next few weeks. This is one of my favorite spots on the farm. We reserved this part of the farm for summer grazing and had the other half of this field cut for hay which we plan on grazing it in the fall. With proper management we should be able stockpile enough forage to keep these girls out grazing wel...l into the winter. A big thanks to all who came out and purchased chickens from us. We still have a few for sale if your interested and will have lots more for the fall. Stay tuned for other exciting news coming and please Like and Share
