Meadow Lane is very excited to introduce an innovative new form of regenerative therapy. Through our commitment to provide the best possible therapies available to our equine partners we have become the first clinic in Canada to be able to offer Alpha2EQ. This product was released last year at the beginning of Covid which unfortunately slowed down and delayed the availability of it to practitioners and horses until now. Within your horse’s blood is a molecule called the Alpha...-2 Macroglobulin (a2M) molecule. The a2M molecule has been shown to prevent cartilage breakdown and loss which intern slows the progression of osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease. It is also extremely useful in decreasing inflammation and relieving pain. Unfortunately this molecule is too large to enter the joint space in a high enough quantity on its own. What Alpha2EQ does is allow us to pull the horse’s own blood then we can process, isolate, and concentrate the a2M molecule in plasma so that we can inject it into the affected joint. Since Alpha2EQ is a regenerative therapy using the horse’s own blood you avoid many of the risks that come along with injecting a steroid into a joint. The Alpha2EQ process also allows us to process a large amount of the a2M molecule which us allows us to treat multiple joints or freeze any excess product so that it can be used for future treatments. Meadow Lane would like to thank Thunderbird Show Park for putting on a very fun and safe 2 weeks of Rendezvous . We are proud to be a part of it as veterinarians, sponsors, and riders. Dr. Plough was there doing embro work and Dr Hodge and Dr Kopala were performing pre-purchase and lameness exams. Thanks to our vet tech Lauren for the lovely photos. We are looking forward to doing it all again next month as well as having the Smart RLT Laser on site for all of your pre-performance needs.
