Oh no, I never do much ironing, except the outside clothes. We must not iron out the fresh air and sunshine, you know. It is much more healthful not to, the doctors say. Seriously, there is something very refreshing about sheets and pillow slips just fresh from the line, after being washed and dried in the sun and air. Just try them that way and see if your sleep is not sweeter. Laura Ingalls Wilder

Ms. Doris told the group... I’ll feel this moment for the rest of my life. I may not remember from day to day, but I’ll remember in my heart and my arms.

Love and attention ~ people will thrive

Meadowlark Senior Care Home 18.09.2020

Failure to Thrive . . . Really? Seniors protected at all costs from getting a deadly virus yet dying alone behind locked doors. We are losing our elderly in tragic numbers. Isolated and not able to understand why their family no longer visits they give up hope and the will to live. When this happens the new term used is ‘the failure to thrive’.... Do we want this as the new norm for our elderly? Is this the best we can do for them? Reports and personal experience show that lockdowns and visitor restrictions have increased loneliness, depression and deaths among the elderly. Facilities insure the elderly are physically well cared for but they can never replace a family’s love. Now more than ever we must strive to keep seniors warmly connected to their family and friends the very people they know love and care about them the most. In fact it is crucial for mental and physical well-being. Studies show that feeling cared about buffers against stress, increases positive emotions, promotes resilience and people thrive. Make 'CARING to THRIVE' the new norm.
