Meadowsweet Stoneworks 12.05.2021

This was an interesting and involved project working alongside MW Carpentry. These steps were built to replace a construction that had been poorly built and was falling apart. Meadowsweet demolished the old steps and saved the blocks that it had been built from. We then built a new platform out of the old intact blocks, supported by new interior blocks, and laid a sturdy concrete pad. MW Carpentry then constructed the cedar railing and steps above. The steps were constructed to accommodate the house's dryer exhaust port, which was moved from a poorly placed corner to a more accessible spot with better ventilation. Furthermore, Meadowsweet re-parged the garden space next to the step, as it had cracked in several places.

This year Meadowsweet spent a lot of time on our customers' roofs, working on chimneys. Three of those jobs involved the total removal of the chimney. A masonry chimney sees a lot of weather, and without proper maintenance it becomes a hazard to the home and potentially to passers-by. The chimney you see in this video had been repointed by the previous home owner. The mortar that the home owner chose to use on their project was super strong and so it both shattered the... bricks as it hardened and prevented moisture from exiting the chimney through the mortar joints. The trapped moisture escaped through the damaged bricks instead and caused serious damage. Those bricks that were semi-intact looked like they had had large bites taken out of them by some chimney eating creature. The rest of them were just shattered clay. In this video I'm up on a zoom-boom, and I'm most of the way finished with the work. Despite the damage you can see Meadowsweet was able to remove the chimney safely and cleanly. MW Carpentry in Beachburg then patched the roof with in-kind materials so you could never tell a chimney had even been there.
