Did you know that mindfulness is a well documented and effective tool for chronic pain management and pain reduction? As an osteopathic manual practitioner I am unable to provide support to patients during lockdown, but mindfulness is a great way to support yourself. I spent some time with this audiobook book this morning.... As long as you are breathing there is more right with you than wrong with you. - Jon Kabat-Zinn
With the province moving into the emergency break framework today, my clinic is required to be closed. This was incredibly disappointing news for me and the 3rd time I am having to close my doors this past year. All appointments for April are cancelled and will be rebooked once I can return to the clinic. Take care of yourselves, hope to see you all soon!
No matter where you live in the world, late autumn warmth is something to savour. Enjoy these days before the frost sets in. I'll be taking advantage by getting some garlic in the ground
Finding the right balance between clinic, family and self is an ongoing journey. This month I have made some changes to better serve folks who are only available later in the day. Bonus is that I can now dedicate two mornings a week for self care - which for me means yoga and forest bathing. #meaford #meafordwellness #osteopathy #selfcare
Have you heard of minimalist footwear? It’s a style of shoe that mimics how we walk when barefoot. I made the switch in the spring and wearing my blundstones this week felt like high heeled shoes - which technically they are. Blog post coming soon on why you might consider minimalism with regards to footwear. #loveyourfeet #barefootshoes #xeroshoes #meaford #meafordwellness #osteopathy
This past month back in practice has given me the time to get used to new protocols and catch up with those needing treatment. Thanks to everyone for doing their part with hand sanitizing and mask wearing. Happy to say that I am ready to open up my calendar once again to online booking. visit www.meafordosteopathy.com to book an appointment today!
It was 146 years ago today that Dr. Andrew Taylor Still "flung to the breeze the banner of osteopathy". Am sure glad he did. What banner are you carrying?
With Grey Bruce now in Phase 2, Meaford Osteopathy has gotten approval for a gradual reopening of practice. In the coming weeks, priority will be given to patients in acute need of care, but I do look forward to seeing you all. My very handy online booking system is disabled for the time being, so please call 519-373-3080 or email [email protected] for an appointment request.
Clinic Update! Osteopathic manual therapists were not included in the provinces directive last week of regulated healthcare practitioners returning to work as we are currently a self regulated profession. In the mean time, PPE and supplies are being acquired and new policies and procedures are being put in place to ensure everyone's safety. I am hopeful that the clinic can open its doors in July for both osteopathic treatment and massage therapy. ... See you then, and thank you for your patience. Rachel
Found this on the windowsill at the clinic this afternoon while coming in to work on the computer. Thanks for the reminder! #meafordrocks
Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a... drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal. A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said." We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized. - Ira Byock, Hospice and Palliative Care Physician

Nettie Boles graduated in the first class of the American School of Osteopathy in 1894. She practiced, wrote about and taught Osteopathy and championed it as a profession for women through helping to establish the Osteopathic Women's National Association and serving as its president 3 times. #becauseofyou #internationalwomensday #meaford #meafordwellness
Massage therapy is older than recorded time, and rubbing was one of the primary forms of medicine until the pharmaceutical revolution of the 1940s. Popularized again as part of the alternative medicine movement, massage therapy has recently received empirical support for facilitating growth, reducing pain, increasing alertness, diminishing depression, and enhancing immune function. #meaford #registeredmassagetherapy #meafordwellness

My colleague Elyse Matthews says it best. Laptops can be a real pain in the neck! "Can you spot why she might be suffering from back and neck pain? Ergonomically, prolonged use of laptops are a real pain in the neck! .... and back....and hips....and forearms and wrists. You get the idea, right? Osteopathy, along with some targeted postural tips and looking at your day to day can help!"
Have you been considering Osteopathic Care? As a teacher once said, the best time for treatment was yesterday, the next best time is today. Appointments available this week for both Massage and Osteopathy! #meafordwellness #meafordosteopathy
