For this week’s partner highlights we have Operation Come Home (@ochottawa ), a support centre for homeless and at-risk youth age 16 and up here in Ottawa. OCH is now celebrating its 50th year as an organization in our community. Their social enterprises, including BottleWorks (www.bottleworks.ca) and FoodWorks (www.foodworksottawa.ca) , aim to employ homeless and street-involved youth. BottleWorks has pivoted during COVID times to doing residential pickups and drop-off event...s; the revenue it generates goes towards paid rotation-based employment of the youth, vocational skills development, and social supports. FoodWorks, which has officially reopened on March 24th, works to engage at-risk youth recruited from OCH to assist with the development of culinary and employment skills. 100% of their profits go towards the many programs and services offered by OCH. These are just some ways the organization has been trying to help at-risk youth in our community... For those of you who didn’t know, we have been partnering with OCH since October 2019! From that point on, we have helped delivered more than 300 lbs of fresh produce to them. With the kind assistance from their staff, our execs also helped to prepare breakfast for the youth in early 2020. We are so excited to work with OCH again in the future! photo credits: @ochottawa

Hey guys! We will be doing a series of partner highlights in the next few weeks, showing the different organizations and businesses we’re working with! On this week’s highlights we are introducing our lovely partner, @fiazzafreshfired . They are a very generous business hoping to help members of the community in many ways. With their help, we have donated boxes of pizzas and salads to the Ottawa Mission! They show support for local food businesses by using locally sourced foo...ds. For example, they source their mushrooms from local farmers and sausages from a local butcher. What’s more, they run a fundraising event called Pizza with a Purpose two to three times every year, where they would partner with local restaurants and raise money for charity organizations like the Ottawa Cancer Foundation. You can find out about these events on their Instagram page and website! We feel so lucky to be able to work with Fiazza Fresh Fired, and we look forward to partnering more in the future and help those in the community that are in need.

This week’s delivery features our donor @fleurteahousesandyhill ! Our volunteers helped delivered these nutritious snacks and drinks to Restoring Hope Ministries, which is a youth shelter here in Ottawa. We are so grateful to be working with different local organizations to help more people in the food-insecure population :)

Introducing our Fundrasing Leads (2020-2021), Mehreen and Maisha! Mehreen is an Economics student minoring in Global Studies at the University of Ottawa. Wanting to become more active in her community, Mehreen joined Mealcare. She is hoping to learn more about sustainable food practices, and how to address food insecurity for her time with MealCare! Maisha is a Health Sciences student at the University of Ottawa with research interests in nutrition sciences and health policy.... Her combined interests inspired her to join MealCare with the hope of advocating for sustainable food practices, while minimizing food waste and insecurity in the community. Maisha's passion for gardening and cooking also motivated her to develop a more sustainable lifestyle and she aspires to raise awareness for food insecurity on both a local and global scale. We are so excited to have them on the team!
