It looks like the set of a science fiction movie but this is The Hammer near Meat Cove, Cape Breton. The rock formed about 360 million years ago as rivers depos...ited sediment that was later compressed into stone. It was tilted over millions of years by upward pressure from tectonic plate movement. Hi, everyone. For the past couple of weeks we have been keeping an eye on the tourism to see if things were going to pick back up for the Meat Cove Chowder hut but unfortunately it has not. With that being said we cannot stay open as much as we would like to. Our hours and days of operation will change as the following: MONDAY --> (11AM-7PM) ... TUESDAY --> (CLOSED) WEDNESDAY --> (CLOSED) THURSDAY --> (CLOSED) FRIDAY --> (11AM-7PM) SATURDAY --> (11AM-7PM) SUNDAY --> (11AM-7PM)

Hi, everyone! Unfortunately, as we expected the tourism business for the 2020 at this time isn't what we hoped it would be. So with that being said we have to cut back on our hours of operation at the Meat Cove Chowder Hut. From now on we will be running the hours of operation as the following: MONDAY(3PM-7PM) TUESDAY (3PM-7PM) WEDNESDAY (3PM-7PM) THURSDAY (CLOSED) FRIDAY (11AM-7PM) SATURDAY (11AM-7PM) SUNDAY (11AM-7PM). If all goes well and the business picks up we will go b...ack to our regular hours of operation (6 DAYS A WEEK 11AM-7PM CLOSED ON THURSDAYS) If we have to make any further adjustments of any kind we will be making updates on our facebook webpage. We hope all the other privately owned and small operated businesses out there are doing their best given the circumstances we are all facing! Hi, everyone! It's official! The Meat Cove Chowder Hut is open for the 2020 season! Things are a little different this summer but we are here! For this summer unfortunately we will not be doing table service, instead will be doing takeout only. But don't be discouraged! Our beautiful deck is open (social distancing - tables 6 feet apart) so you can sit and enjoy the beautiful views while eating a bowl of chowder and a local cold beer to wash it down! Our hours will be staying the same as last summer. 11-7pm six days a week and CLOSED ON THURSDAYS. We hope as always everyone is being safe and staying well! This summer is different for everyone but one thing that stays the same is the wonderful views and the great hospitality the maritimes has to offer! We hope to see old faces and new :)

Also, an update on our restaurant. At this time we are still working on things with our Chowder Hut as it is more challenging. But we are planning on being open to some degree. So keep an eye on our Facebook page with updates coming soon! Cold beers and delicious chowder are not far off :)

Hi, everyone! We hope everyone is safe and doing well! We would like to inform you that the Meat Cove Campground is open for the 2020 season! This year here is a little different than most. At this time our campground can only operate at 50% occupancy, which means we only have 15 campsites available to be rented. We are able to rent our camp cottages that we have and they are open for reservations at this time. Our campsites are first come first serve. We know at this time the world seems to be flipped upside down and we are all trying to get used to this "new normal" But one thing we do know is that we live in one of the most beautiful, rugged and hospitable places in all of Canada! So there is no better time than the present to explore our wonderful province of Nova Scotia! We hope to see all of our old friends and new! :)

Here are some updates on the opening of certain things in Nova Scotia

Unfortunately at this time privately operated campgrounds must still be remained closed due to COVID19. Which means we CANNOT start taking reservations for our camp cabins for the 2020 season quite yet. An exception is that people who own recreational vehicles parked year-round at private campgrounds can return but unfortunately we do not house vehicles at our campground year round as we are not an RV campground and do not have hookups. But with that being said we are allowed to prepare for opening which is a good sign. Let’s hope this all turns around! Thank you from our family here at the Meat Cove Campground.
