Very excited to announce today we are back open 100%. The guidelines for safety we will be following will exceed provincial and municipal standards. We will not have more then 10 people in 4000sq feet. Talk about social distancing! Truth is our everyday model before COVID was already 90% of the way there. Machines were cleaned after client use and every machine was re-cleaned and disinfected at the end of the night. It was just the right thing to do. To all our current clients we look forward to having you back. To the new clients who are looking for the most effective, efficient and safe in terms of exercise safety and gym cleanliness, we look forward to welcoming you into the best equipped private facility in Canada. Lets get stronger bodies, minds and immune systems together.

As of last night we have officially shut down both STG Strength and Power in Paris and STG Health and Wellness in St. George. Although we have taken exceptional measures to keep both locations safe and disinfected, we felt with the virus reportedly hitting Brant County it was the appropriate time to do our part and helping slow the spread. We will proceed with the current recommendations of a 14 day self quaratine for all of us in the STG family with the hopes of opening are doors back open March 30th. All clients will be notified of this current status along with any updates that may follow. We hope all are friends, family, clients and people of Brant County stay safe during this unprecedented times. If you have any questions please direct them directly to me or Kathleen Vincent.

Thank you the county of Brant for this prestigious award. This video they produced for us does an amazing job in describing what we offer at STG and how long we have been in the community. #BrantWorks #SalutetoBrant2019 #GoodtimesinBrant

Many people know me as a machine guy because of my love for high end exercise equipment. However here at STG we are still very much into our free weights. We just picked up my personal Excalibur!! You are looking at an Ivanko stainless steel barbell which also came with a nice set of Ivanko plates. The first time I used this bar was at the legendary Fortis Fitness in Toronto. I was so impressed with the knurling and how it felt in the hands. This may be the strongest and finest built barbell in existence. We can't wait for our client to use it. Ivanko Barbell Company

Tonight should be an exciting game to end the NCAA basketball tournament. Just a quick reminder that both Michigan and Villanova have recently outfitted their strength and conditioning facilities with Pendulum equipment. There is only one gym in Brant County that has access to the same equipment the best college basketball players in the world use. We look forward to helping more young athletes in the future get ready to move up to the next level.

As most of my fitness friends on here know the history of the Iron Game fascinates me. Of my many interests the work of Arthur Jones and Nautilus tops the list.... I have spent a great deal of time and money to acquire some of the most sought after and rare pieces of Nautilus equipment ever made. In 2013 I posed a question online. What happened to the Nautilus Leg and Lower Back? Arthur would go on to write 2 articles entitled The Final Breakthrough and A Second Look at the Final Breakthrough. He even went as far as to put it on his 1972 price list at $5680. it was almost double his next expensive machine and priced above a Chevrolet Corvette of the same year. The machine was theorized to provide a workout several times harder than free weight squatting while increasing effective resistance in all the major musculatures associated with squatting and eliminating all compression force on the spine. At first I was told to create the machine would be impossible and cost 20k just to try. However with the help of Mr. Nautilus John Turner and IFBB Hall of Famer Boyer Coe I was able to come up with enough history to start finding out why it was never made. Dr. Ellington Darden commented I talked with AJ several times about this machine. He said it was one of the few machine concepts that, if he actually built the machine, the movement properly performed for 12 repetitions would be too intense. Luckily one day a Prototype maker came into my gym looking for personal training. Simon Schofield a man who literally makes things that don’t already exist for a living would begin to train at the facility and as I taught him about bio-mechanics and what I wanted to produce he was able to educate me on the steps necessary to make it a reality. His prototype shop and his talents allowed us to create a working prototype. Over the next few years we would build, test, modify, re-test, re-modify and eventually succeed in the multi-year goal of bringing the Final Breakthrough to life. This is directly taken from Arthur himself talking squats and reasoning for the concept In the squat, you are primarily working three separate muscular masses -- the frontal muscles of the thighs, the muscles of the buttocks, and the muscles of the lower back; and while squatting is certainly not an "easy" form of exercise, it is nevertheless true that squats involve only a small percentage of the total number of fibers contained in the muscles being worked, and that none of the muscles are worked in a direct manner -- in either sense of the word "direct" as I have used it in previous articles. That is to say; the resistance provided is not "directly opposed to the possible direction of force application" -- the resistance is being provided in one direction, straight down, and the force is primarily being exerted in another direction, in a direction almost 90 degrees out of phase with a direction opposite to the direction of resistance application. As a consequence, a very large part of the force being produced is wasted -- is doing nothing in the way of moving the resistance. And secondly, in some important areas of the exercise movement -- and as it happens these are the most important area; -- the direction of resistance application is fully 90 degrees out of phase with the direction of force application; and thus, obviously in such a situation there is literally NO resistance in those positions -- not, at least, insofar as the muscles you are trying to work are concerned -- and without resistance there is no possibility of benefit from the exercise in those positions, in the very positions where greatest benefit is both possible and desirable, in the only position where it is even possible to involve ALL of the muscles in the exercise. Holding the contracted position on this machine with appropriate resistance needs to be felt to be believed. No resting of the musculature is possible at the top of the movement. Stronger in the thighs then you are in the lower back or vice versa? No problem. We can load each musculature individually to the user to make sure both are getting adequate resistance without over or under loading one. Also we have added range limiters. Injuries or other physical limitations may not allow a user to experience full range exercise. However we can alter the range to again tailor the exercise to the lifter. Another benefit with this machine you get two machines in one. A gym owner can now get a great thigh extension and lumbar extension movement from one seat. Two motions from the floor space of one piece. Each motion can be done separate from the other but the genius of the concept comes when you combine the two. There is only one major problem with the machine. There is only one! Unless you are a private client of STG you will not be able to use one anywhere else in the world. However without going into too much information we are in talks with a major equipment manufacturer to create a modern plate loaded version for commercial sales. From the people tagged in this post you can figure out who I believe is the only choice to take this concept to a much larger production. With his knowledge and manufacturing capabilities I feel the machine can be improved upon both in terms of function, features and most importantly cost. March 9th and 10th I will be at the Resistance Exercise Conference in Minneapolis Minnesota where the idea and all current R&D work will be shared and discussed with strength training legend Mike Gittleson. For those who don’t know Mike is a 30 season Head and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the University of Michigan Football program. I could not ask for a more experienced person to help give insight to the project. I leave you all with a question. What do we call it? Arthur simply referred to it as the Leg and Lower Back machine. We have also used the name Rotary Squat which was originally coined by Bill DeSimone back in 2013. What do you prefer or is there another name you feel is appropriate. Hope everyone enjoys the video and it is my sincerest hope we get one of these machines into the proper facilities that can understand and utilize them to their fullest potential. All the best my friends, Michael

Here is the last episode we did for Season 2 of "In the Gym". The final show of the season was about common ways form falls apart while training. If we had more time we could have shown a dozen more examples. Also we look at some of the unique bodybuilding movements pioneered by Vince "The Iron Guru" Gironda. Thanks to models Justin Jepma and Landon Wilcock. Also since this is the last video of the series a very special thanks to our producer Patti Dickie-Berardi and Rogers CrewRogers TV, cable 20. We could not have done any of this without all of the hard work you put in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYi9a-daAcQ

Episode 8 of Season 2 of "In The Gym". I have two special thanks to go out for this episode. We were fortunate enough to have two excellent companies supply top notch equipment for the show. This episode is based on the evolution of standard gym equipment. Thanks to Maximum Advantage Grip for the best pulldown attachments I have ever used. Also to T-GRIP BARBELL for the neutral grip barbells. The workmanship is amazing and see's daily use at our facility. Also thank you to models Landon Wilcock and Nathan Lambert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUI_qU_WY1Q
